Let’s Slow Down

Scripture

Micah 6:6-8

With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Observation

Justly: H5477 מִשְׁפָּט mišpāṭ, justice, judgment; law, regulation, prescription, specification:

Mercy: H2876 חֶסֶד2 ḥesed2, unfailing love, loyal love, devotion, kindness, often based on a prior relationship, especially a covenant relationship

Humbly: H7570 צָנַע ṣānaʽ, to show a humble (walk with God), as an extension of acting in a cautious manner

Application

My grandmother was so sure everything could be fixed with a cup of hot tea. What I found as I grew up that sitting over a hot beverage like coffee, tea or hot chocolate with a friend did make things better. Sitting there makes you slow down for a minute. You take a breath and don’t act rashly to your problem. When we take those moments to walk humbly with God we learn to act justly with love and mercy.

Prayer

Lord you are so patient with me. Help me learn to not react to things around me. Help me learn to slow down and walk humbly with you so I can show your justice, mercy and love.

    ~Amen

No Fear

Scripture

2 Peter 3:10-13

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

Observation

G4659 προσδοκάω prosdokaō, to look forward to, expect, wait for

[look forward to something] to feel happy and excited about something that is going to happen

Application

Downhill skiing totally scares me. It is so fast and trees pop up out of nowhere. It can be very dangerous. However, if you keep your body aligned and eyes forward you you will quickly and safely find yourself at the bottom sipping hot chocolate. One of these days, God is going to zoom in and destroy this earth. However, we do not need to be afraid. If we stay on the path and keep our eyes on Him, soon we will be in that New Heaven and New Earth sipping the BEST hot chocolate EVER!
