Your Initials are Carved in the Tree of Life

Scripture

1 John 1:7-9

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Observation

G3126 κοινωνία koinōnia, n. [19] [√ 3123]. fellowship, the close association between persons, emphasizing what is common between them; by extension: participation, sharing, contribution, gift, the outcome of such close relationships

Application

Do you know what I love about these verses? Nowhere does it say I have to be pure or clean or sinless to enter that light. I just need to walk right in it. To make that first step, I don’t even have to clean myself up. I just have to admit I am dirty. That my friend is true love! Jesus loves you right where you are, right now! He is coming to you. Rejoice today because your initials are carved on the tree of life!

Prayer

Lord, today I just want to say thank you and I love you too!

Shoot an Arrow of Love and Grace

Scripture

Ephesians 2:4-6

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

Observation

G4183 παράπτωμα paraptōma, trespass, transgression, sin against, to sin as a moral failure to keep a command, fig., stepping out of the bounds of God’s law

Application

I will forgive him or her if… Have you ever uttered these words or thought them? Aren’t you glad God hasn’t! Forgiveness is NOT a two-way street. Forgiveness is NOT fair nor is it equal. If it were, God would never forgive us. True forgiveness comes from love and grace. For us humans it is about freedom. It is not about freeing the person who wronged us by telling them they were right, it is OK they did that to us. It is setting ourselves free from the bondage of hatred. Be a Cupid. Shoot them with an arrow of love and grace. If nothing else you will feel better.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for your love and grace. You know the people who have hurt me. You know how hard it is for me to forgive them. Help me Lord to move on and free myself by using your love and grace to forgive them. ~Amen

Love ME??? Part 2

Scripture

Matthew 7:9-12

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Observation

Do – G4472 ποιέω poieō, to do, make, practice, produce, a generic term of action or performance

Application

God laid on my heart to switch this verse again today. It is about the last part “do to others what you would have them do to you.” How many things do you say to yourself that you would NEVER say to someone you love? How many things do you say to yourself that you would NEVER let anyone say to you/? You have to quit beating up and hating yourself. God loves you. What right do you have to hate something He created and loves? Today, take a moment and do unto yourself what you would have others do to you.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for loving me. I am sorry that I often take that gift for granted. I apologize for despising the very thing you made. Help me learn to give myself your love and grace that I so freely give to others. ~Amen

Cheers!

Scripture

Psalms 126:1-3

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.

Observation

Joy-H8524 שָׂמֵחַ śāmēaḥ, rejoicing, gladness, delight

Application

Do you get happy when someone else is blessed? I mean really happy. What about those you don’t necessarily like? Jealousy and envy can set in very quickly. I know it has got me a couple of times. OK, maybe more than just a couple. I have seen friends get promotions that I thought I should have got. It is hard to be genuinely happy when you are sulking. Do you know what I found? There blessings weren’t meant for me. My blessings were coming and they were meant for me at just the right time. So cheers to your blessings today We’ll celebrate mine later tomorrow!

Prayers

Lord, I thank you for all of my blessings, but I also want to thank you for the blessings you bestow on those around me. I know you have the perfect gift for each of just when we need it. ~Amen

Love ME???

Scripture

Mark 12:28-31

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Observation

Neighbor- G4446 πλησίον plēsion, near, close by

Application

Would you kick a neighbor when he is down? Would you look at your neighbor and tell them they are fat, ugly or stupid? Would you beat them up over a little mistake and never forgive them? So, why do you do it to yourself? Why not love your neighbor like yourself? Why not give yourself a break? Tell yourself you look gorgeous today. Tell yourself you are loved and taken care of today. My goodness you can’t get any closer than yourself. Take care of you and love yourself like you love your neighbor!

Prayer

Lord, I know you love me, but I don’t always love myself. I even love my neighbors and treat them better than I do myself. I am sorry for sometimes hating your creation. Today I will stand up for myself and not let Satan convince me I an anything other than wonderfully made. ~Amen

Sweets for the Not So Sweet

Scripture

Matthew 5:43-48

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Observation

Love – G26 ἀγαπάω agapaō, v. [143] [→ 27, 28]. to love; in the NT usually the active love of God for his Son and his people, and the active love his people are to have for God, each other, and even enemies

Application

Today I am going to be short and sweet, no pun intended for the candy box below. As a matter of fact, if I could give you chocolate I would. I know what I am about to say made me go, “Ouch” when God told me. So, here it goes. God still loves you after all of your mistakes. There is no one you meet today that God does not love mistakes and all. So, what gives you the right to hate them.

Here have a box of chocolates❤️
Prayers

Lord, I am sorry for holding hatred in my heart for my enemies. I know that I don’t have to agree with someone or accept what they did to me to love them. Loving someone means I have to pray for them and be Christ to them. I have to hope that they will find you. I have to remember YOU love everyone, mistakes and all.

Hang on to Hope

Scripture

Romans 5:2-5

through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Observation

Hope- G1828 ἐλπίς elpis, hope, expectation

Application

Hope is everything to me. It is the thread I have to hang on when my PTSD hits. When depression darkens everything around me, it is my rock that keeps me from trying to take my life again. Hopelessness surrounds me when those demons come to torment me. I choose to hang on to hope. I can’t see God. I can’t hear him and I can’t feel him. So why should I stand firm? Why should I hang on to my life? Because there is hope. I start with my faith that I am not alone. It helps me persevere. Soon, hope shines through. At the end of that rainbow is God sending his love.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for not letting go of me. I put my hope in you. Reach those today that feel alone. Let them no we are here. They are NEVER alone. ~Amen

SPLAT!

Scripture

Isaiah 41:10, 13-14

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Observation

Fear H3707 יָרֵא1 yārē’ to be afraid, be frightened; to revere, respect; to be awesome, be dreadful, be feared; to frighten, terrify, intimidate

Application

Fear tries to set in but you won’t let it grip you. You prepare your weapons. You gather as many as you can. You crouch behind a tree and hold your breath and say a quick prayer. You let your breath out, pick up your weapon, and let it FLY! The snowball hits its target…SPLAT! The snowball fight begins! Fear is a normal and natural response. God never expected us to not feel fear. What he expects is for us to not let fear set in and take over our lives. So, it is OK to see fear but there is no reason to run. Face it! Pick up that snowball and hit Satan right in the face! SPLAT!

Prayer

Lord, feeling fear is a natural feeling. Thank you for being right by my side when it hits. With you, I never have to let fear overcome me. ~Amen

Don’t Slip on the Ice

Scripture

Romans 12:1-2

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Observation

Test AND Approve – G1507 δοκιμάζω dokimazō, to test, try, examine; interpret, approve, approve of, approved, approves, discern, examine, find out, proved, refined, test and approve, tested,  tests, think it worthwhile, try out

Application

Personally, I think going ice fishing takes a special kind of crazy…LOL! True fishermen do not just wake up and hit the ice. They have to get the right equipment and find and test the right spot. They make sure the ice is strong enough, the water under is deep enough and the right temperature. They take their time and make sure everything is just right. When we take the time to follow God and read, pray, and study we prep ourselves. Then, we will be able to know exactly what it is God wants us to do when we ask for direction. We get His approval and we know the ice will be safe!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for making sure my steps are safe. I know if I look to you, you will always navigate my icy spots. ~Amen

Soar in the Wind

Scripture

1 Corinthians 15:57-58

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Observation

Firm- G1612 ἑδραῖος hedraios, firm, steadfast:– firm (1), settled the matter

Application

Have you ever watched a bird on a windy day? They don’t let anyone tell them they can’t fly. They don’t listen to anyone telling them it is impossible to sit on a wire or perch on the edge of a bird house. No, they stick out their chests and stay firm and steady. What if we took some advice from those birds? What would happen if we quit listening to the naysayers? What if we kept our eyes to the sky and the one who created it? Stand firm in the wind. God has got you! Then soar my friend!

Prayer

Lord you are with me in rain or shine. When the winds begin to blow I know I can stay firm with you holding me. ~Amen
