Happy Purim

Scripture

Philippians 1:3-6

Thanksgiving and Prayer

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Observation

G3644 μνεία mneia, remembrance, mention

Application

Purim is the celebration remembering the story of Esther. God is never outwardly mentioned in the book of Esther, but you can see His hand in every moment. Esther stood up for her people even when it meant putting her life on the line. Haman’s plot to destroy the Jews was not only overturned but Haman was put to death instead.  Purim could be celebrated everyday thanks to another man, Jesus! He put his life on the line and died so each and everyone of us could live! Today, remember the good work God has started in you and carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for standing up for me. I celebrate today in honor of the story of Esther’s bravery. I remember and celebrate your life every single day. ~Amen

Pinwheel

Scripture

2 Timothy 2:11-13

Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself

Observation

G4412 πιστός pistos, faithful, trustworthy, reliable, believing

Application

Pinwheels were a favorite toy of mine. They were inexpensive, colorful and I could get lost in the spinning for hours. But what happens when you lay them down? The wind can no longer get to them and they quit spinning. What happens when we walk away from Christ? He can no longer fill us and we die out. The minute we stand back with him, he is right there! Ready to fill us again. It is our responsibility to endure with him. He will remain faithful to the end. He will never walk off and leave us hanging. Let him fill your sails so you can spin carelessly through the day!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for filling my sails every day. You keep me spinning and moving forward. You are always faithful and trustworthy. You will always be there for me. ~Amen

Did you ever notice on the darkest of stormy days you can still see outside? You can still see the stormy clouds. You can see the rain or the wind blowing things around. Why is that? The storm is raging, but darkness did not overcome the light. The sun is still there. It hasn’t left us. It is pushing its way through the storm and shining its rays of hope.  You know what? In the storms of your life, the SON is still there. He is also pushing his rays of hope through. He will prevail.  Keep yours eyes on the sky! His face will soon be shining bright with a smile just for you!

Prayer

Lord, I am seeking your face! Thank you for your warm smile. You always brighten my day. ~Amen

“March 4th”

Observation

G5455 τέλειος teleios, perfect, mature, finished

Application

Did you ever here the story of the man and who tried to help the butterfly? It seems he saw a The caterpillar struggling to get out of its cocoon. He felt sorry for it and gently cut open the cocoon to help what was now a butterfly emerge. The problem is a butterfly must struggle to strengthen its wings. If it doesn’t go through the process it will never fly. We are a lot like that butterfly. If we don’t go through our struggles we never learn to persevere. If we don’t persevere we never gain the strength to March forth.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for strengthening me each day. I know to be able to march forth I need to learn to persevere.

When the Wind Blows

Scripture

Romans 5:3-5

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Observation

Suffering – G2568 θλῖψις thlipsis, trouble, distress, oppression, tribulation

Application

I am training for an endurance bike ride right now. Hills and wind are my nemeses.  However, I know facing both of them and pedaling through is what makes me stronger. It builds my muscles to be ready to take on the next one. My walk with Christ is similar to my rides. Life is always throwing things. I have two choices. I can stop in my tracks, curl up and refuse to go any further or I can stand firm reach out to God and keep walking to persevere through life. You have it in you to keep going. You will never know how strong you are until the wind begins to blow and your strength is tested.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for being with me as the winds begin to blow.. ~Amen

Farming Starts at Home

Scripture

Galatians 6:8-10

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Observations

Destruction – G5785 φθορά phthora, perishableness, destruction, corruption

Applications

There is nothing wrong with self-care. When self-care becomes self-centered you are in for destruction! We take care of ourselves because we are gifts from God. We do it so we don’t become weary in doing good to all people. I am not saying we always put ourselves first. That is being self-centered. I am saying we take are of your bodies, spirits and mind. We take care of God’s temple. Sometimes it means saying no to others and that is OK. Don’t let others destroy the your farm. It needs to be ready to sow those seeds to reap an eternal life!

Prayers

Lord, thank you for this body you have given me. I am sorry I don’t always take care of it the way I should. I promise to be more conscious of my self-are so I am strong and ready to be a farmer! ~Amen

Never Alone

Scripture

1 Peter 5:6-9

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Observation

G3533 μέριμνα merimna, worry, concern, anxiety

Application

When dealing with anxiety, Satan’s favorite weapon of choice is cornering you and making you feel like you are totally alone. He figures if he can just get us away from the safety of the rest of the pack, he can attack us and devour us just like lion. The one weapon we can fight back with is realizing we are NEVER alone. God is always with us and so are other believers. We just need to reach out. The bible is filled with stories of people fighting back. Just pick it up and start reading. Satan has no power against our strength when we stand together with God!

Prayer

Lord you are always there for me. I am never alone. There is no way Satan can stand in your presence and he knows that. Please hold me tight. Remind me that you are there and bring others into my life to support and need support. Combined we will stand firm against Satan! ~Amen

Yet

Scripture

John 13:34-36

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?”

Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”

Observation

yet

adverb

up until the present or a specified or implied time; by now or then.

“I can’t run a mile yet, but I will someday.”

Application

One of my favorite words is ‘yet’. As a teacher and now a professor, I express it as a magical potion. Students get frustrated when they can’t do something. However, throw that word yet at the end of, “I can’t do ———, yet” and it changes everything. Jesus knew this magic word also. He knew the disciples were not ready yet. They were not prepared to stand up for their faith. They were not ready to die for their faith. They wouldn’t be until He left them and the Holy Spirit came upon them. Then, they would be ready to follow in Jesus’ footsteps.

Prayer

Lord, I thank you for paving the way. You created a path for us to follow. Remind me some days when I try to run ahead, that I am not ready, YET. ~Amen

Chocolate Covered Cherries

Scripture

1 John 3:1-2

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Observation

G1443 δίδωμι didōmi, to give; put, pay, giving, grant, granted, offer, let, allowed, arranged, bring, commanded, enable, gave up, offered

Application

If I want to spoil my husband, I just bring home a box of chocolate covered cherries. I don’t do it because he deserves it or he has done something for me first. I just do it to show him I love him. God lavishes His love over us much in the same way. We don’t deserve it. It isn’t because we did something for Him first. He loves us just because! Many people don’t understand that concept. However, He is waiting for them too. He is standing at their doors with a box of chocolate covered cherries just to say, “I love you!”

Prayer

Lord, thank you for lavishing your love on me. I know some don’t understand my devotion to you because they don’t know you. I hope and pray that they see the truth and get the opportunity to be close to you also. ~Amen
