Rise Above Your Demons

Scripture

Psalms 40:1-4

I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him. Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.

Observation

You Raise Me Up

By Josh Groban

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains

You raise me up to walk on stormy seas

I am strong when I am on your shoulders

You raise me up to more than I can be

Application

As a suicide attempt survivor, who still deals with the depression and PTSD, these verses mean a lot to me. Those demons wrap themselves around me. They tighten their hold. They poke at me and laugh at me when the depression sets in and will never leave me alone, I have to struggle and fight for my life. Just when I think there is no hope left, I cry out. God listens and comes to my rescue and breaks the cocoon around me. I emerge like a butterfly. I stretch my wings and fly higher than those demons can reach!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for lifting me up when I can’t even lift my head! ~Amen

Learn to Fly in the Storm

Scripture

Colossians 3:1-4

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Observation

Advice from a LadyBug

Don’t let the small things bug you

Spot new opportunities

Spend time in your garden

Be well-rounded

Be simply beautiful

YourTrueNature.com

Application

“Untiil you spread your wings you’ll have no idea how far you can fly” ~Unknown. Don’t get stuck in what is going on around you. Look up! Keep your eyes on God. Remember Peter when he stepped out of the boat? When he kept his eyes on Jesus, he didn’t see the storm and kept walking. The minute he took his eyes of Jesus, all he could see was the raging storm and he began to panic and started sinking. Be a ladybug! Go through the garden looking at all the new adventures ahead. Spread your wings to see where you can fly!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for being the wind beneath my wings! ~Amen

Running In the Rain

Scripture

Psalms 127:1-2

Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Observation

H8736 שָׁוְא šāw’, n.[m.] [53] [→ 7417?, 8734]. worthlessness, vanity, falseness:– false (15), in vain (4 [+4200, 2021]), worthless (4), in vain (3), lies (3), misuse (3 [+5951, 4200, 2021]), falsehood (2), futility (2), misuses (2 [+5951, 4200, 2021]), deceit (1), deceitful (1 [+5493]), deceivers (1 [+5493]), destruction (1), empty plea (1), falsely (1), futile (1), idol (1), idols (1), lies (1 [+1819]), meaningless (1), nothing (1), worthless idols (1), worthless idols (1 [+2039]), worthless things (1)

Application

Do you ever wonder if God sits back and kind of giggles at us sometimes? Maybe He even rolls His eyes as He thinks, “Here they go again. Why don’t they just listen to me.” I can’t be the only one who tries to solve my own problem only to hear God say, “Are you done yet? Shall we try it my way now?” Doing things outside of God’s will and way is like trying to not get wet by running in between raindrops. It is all in vain. So, let’s stop and do it the right way. Grab your raincoat and let God’s blessings rain down on you.

Prayer

Lord thank you for loving me enough to always guide me. ~Amen

Never Left Out in the Rain

Scripture

1 John 4:17-19

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.

Observation

G4244 παρρησία parrēsia, n. [31] [√ 4246 + 4839]. boldness, confidence, frankness; public, openness (of speech):– confidence (7), plainly (4), publicly (3), boldness (2), courage (2), assurance (1), bold (1 [+5968]), bold (1 [+4498, 2400]), boldly (1 [+3552]), clearly (1 [+1877]), confident (1), confidently (1 [+3552]), fearlessly (1 [+1877]), frankness (1), freedom (1), openly (1), public (1), public (1 [+1877])

Application

I have no confidence in an umbrella when it rains. If I even remember to bring one, it is usually out of my reach when I get out of my car. Then if I do get it, the rain is usually going every which way or the wind snatches it and turns it inside out. I have no love for umbrellas! Thank goodness I do have love for God and He loves me. We have nothing to fear no matter what storm rages outside.  We can have full confidence in the fact that God will not leave us out in the rain.

Prayer

Lord thank you for your love. I know I will never be worthy of it, but I am thankful you just love me for me. ~Amen

His Puzzle!

Scripture

Psalms 16:8-11

I keep my eyes always on the LORD.  With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Observation

H4572 מוֹט1 môṭ1, v. [40] [→ 4573, 4574]. [Q] to slip, fall, totter, stagger; [N] to be shaken, be caused to move, be toppled; [H] to bring down, to cause to fall; [Htpol] to be thoroughly shaken, be continually shaken:– be shaken (8), fall (5), be moved (3), slip (3), is violently shaken (2 [+4572]), removed (2), slipping (2), topple (2), are shaken (1), be uprooted (1), be uprooted (1 [+9247]), bring down (1), give way (1), immovable (1 [+1153]), quaking (1), secure (1 [+1153]), shake (1), shaken (1), staggering (1), stumbled (1), unable to support (1 [+3338])

Application

Some people see the Autism Puzzle Logo as offensive. They say it represents the fact that they are a problem, a piece of the puzzle that doesn’t fit the picture. Others see it as a symbol of hope. Every piece is unique and when we all get together we make a beautiful picture. As Christians, we kinda fall into both sides. We are to be unique and different. We don’t fit into the picture the world is creating. However, when we work together, God uses us to make a beautiful picture He is creating. So keep your eyes on the Lord and rejoice that He is using his right hand to place your unique puzzle piece into His Puzzle!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for using my unique piece to make your beautiful picture! ~Amen

Go Forth and Color!

Scripture

1 Timothy 6:11-15

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords,

Observation

[45] [→ 1501, 1502, 1691, 2870]. to pursue, persecute, to systematically oppress and harass a person or group, as an extended meaning of pursuing a person on foot in a chase; also from the image of the chase comes the meaning of striving and pressing on to a goal with intensity: to press on:– persecuted (14), persecute (11), persecuting (5), pursue (5), make every effort (2), press on (2), pursued (2), follow (1), practice (1), running off after (1), strive to do (1)

Application

Today is National Crayon Day! If you take a quit look at the world you would see lots of black, white and many shades of gray. As Christians, it is our job to color this world with righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. So today I challenge you to pick up your sword (or crayon) and fight the good fight of faith. God has given us a wonderful coloring page. It is time we started coloring it!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for providing us with a beautiful coloring book and lots of fabulous crayons to color with today and every day! ~Amen

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb

Scripture

Psalms 138:7-8

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,

you preserve my life.

You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes;

with your right hand you save me.

The LORD will vindicate me;

your love, LORD, endures forever—

do not abandon the works of your hands.

Observation

H7650 צָרָה1 ṣārâ1, n.f. [70] [√ 7639; cf. 7674]. trouble, distress, calamity, anguish:– distress (24), trouble (22), troubles (8), anguish (4), calamities (4), calamity (2), adversity (1), distressed (1), groan (1), hardship (1), hostility (1), oppressed (1)

Application

“In like a lion, out like a lamb!” I don’t know about you but I think March came in like lion for the entire world! Lord, we could use a lamb right now! I want you all to know that right now it is OK to not be OK. We can walk through the midst of trouble. God is still here. He has not abandoned us to face our problems alone. Today, I will admit, I am NOT OK. However, in order to know where I want to go and what I need, I have to know where I am. Where I am is in God’s arms just letting Him hold me. It is OK, life around me is roaring like a lion. God is holding me like a lamb!

Prayer

Lord, today I a not OK. Please just hold me.  ~Amen

Grow Up in Due Time

Scripture

Colossians 1:9-12

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

Observation

G889 αὐξάνω auxanō, v. [23] [→ 890, 891, 5277, 5647]. to cause to grow; (intr.) grow, increase:– grew (4), grow (4), growing (2), grows (2), spread (2), enlarge (1), greater (1), grow to become mature (1), grow up (1), makes grow (1), making grow (1), number greatly increased (1 [+2779, 4437]), rises (1), spread widely (1)

Application

I remember as a child playing house and dress up with my friend Angie. We couldn’t wait to grow up and be adults. I also remember our moms telling us to slow down. We would grow up in all due time. We won’t all of a sudden be “grown up Christians” either. We have to grow. Part of that growth requires trials to strengthen us. I am not saying the Bible isn’t important. It is our greatest textbook. However, knowledge without wisdom is useless and you can’t practice wisdom without knowledge. We will all grow in Christ at our due time!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for raising me. Thank you for giving me everything I need to grow stronger every single day! ~Amen

Can’t Buy His Love

Scripture

Romans 8:37-39

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Observation

G6004 χωρίζω chōrizō, to divide, separate, leave, to be separated from, set apar

Application

I would like to take a moment today to remind everyone that this verse pertains to all of us. The words nor any power and nor anything else in all creation means NOTHING!!! In a world of competition, you are enough right where you stand. It doesn’t matter if your thin with no wrinkles. It doesn’t matter if you live in a spotless mansion. It doesn’t matter if you have the new tech, or drive a fancy car. No money is going to buy your way into God’s love. No matter what commercials try to convince you. YOU are enough for God! Nothing can separate you from His love.

Prayer

Lord, I know I am not perfect. I screw up. I want to thank you for your love through it all. You don’t give up on me and so I will do my best to not give up on myslef. ~Amen

Peanut Butter on Your Waffles

Scripture

Hebrews 3:5-8

“Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness,

Observation

G4177 παραπικρασμός parapikrasmos, rebellion, revolt

Application

I married into a weird family. The first time my husband made us waffles there was no butter on the table. I looked over and he was putting peanut butter on his waffle. What?!?! I mean who does that? He looked at me and said just try it. Short story, I love peanut butter on my waffles! Let me tell you, from experience, there are things the Holy Spirit is going to ask you to do and your response is going to be, “WHAT?!?!” It is normal. It is OK. You can feel that way. In the end though, give it a try. You never know, you might just like peanut butter on your waffles 😉

Prayer

Lord there are times you ask me to do things that my gut says it doesn’t make sense. That is OK. It doesn’t have to make sense to me. It is your plan and I will follow. ~Amen
