Fail

Jeremiah 17:7-8

But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

Let’s talk about the word ‘fails’. We often think failure means the end. We screwed up and it can’t be fixed. Failure only means that, when we don’t get back up and try again. When we trust in the Lord, we are trying again. We are not being perfect and everything goes right. It does not mean we won’t face adversity. It means we keep fighting during it. Flowers and trees keep growing in the face of drought because they have created deep roots to sustain them. Trusting the Lord, is building our deep root system. So don’t fail to grow by failing to build your roots.

Submit

Scripture

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

Observation

H3359 יָדַע yādaʽ, v. to know, recognize, understand;; to be respected; to be known, make oneself known; to cause to know; to show, teach, make known; to be made aware;

Application

The word submit makes some people cringe. i have even heard people who refuse to put anything like it in their marriage vows. I don’t think they understand what it means. Submit does not mean I am going to give permission for someone to walk all over me, rule me, or enslave me. Submit means getting to know each other and forming a relationship based on respect. In Proverbs, God was asking us to get to know Him learn about him, so we can build our trust in Him. Building that trust is what our relationship with God is all about. Eventually you will trust Him enough to submit all your cares and troubles to Him and He will submit Love to us.. Isn’t that what we reallly want?

Lord, today I want to submit my everything to you! ~ Amen

Peony

Scripture

Revelation 1:17-18

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

Observation

Common peony meanings include romance, prosperity, good fortune, a happy marriage, riches, honor, and compassion — but peonies can also mean bashfulness. 

Application

I have a friend who always says, when Satan comes to cause havoc, we need to remind him he has no power. He doesn’t even own the keys to his own house anymore. When Jesus died and rose again, He took everything from Satan, including the keys! We have nothing to fear from Satan. Death itself isn’t in his toolbox. The bible says he is always roaming around Heaven trying to point out to God everything we are doing wrong. Personally, when Satan tries to frighten me with the thought of physical death, I remind him he has to have God’s permission first. If it is my time, then fine. Just remember be careful what you ask for sir. You think I annoy you here on hear, just wait til you see me in Heaven.

Thank you Lord for showing me compassion and bestoying your riches and honor on me. ~Amen

Snapdragon

Scripture

Mark 4:39-41

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Observation

Legend has it that concealing a snapdragon makes a person appear fascinating and cordial, and in the language of flowers, snapdragons are said to represent both deception (perhaps tied to the notion of concealment) and graciousness.

Appliation

Did you ever notice in these verses the disciples’ fears never went away, they just switched subjects. Jesus was fully aware of this fear. He wasn’t questioning their fear of the storm. He was questioning their fear of him. I was almost a, “What do I have to do to convince you I am the Son of God!” moment. When we face fears, one thing we can do is remember all of the fascinating things God has already done in our lives. Things we thought impossible at the time. If He was gracious enough to see us through those, don’t you think He can see us through today!

Tiger Lily

Scripture

Mark 6:49-51

but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed,

Observation

These spotty lilies are associated with wealth and pride. Because of its vibrant colours, it symbolises positivity and confidence. Tiger lilies come in different variations of orange hues which makes it so vivacious!

Application

One way to get over fear is to become confident. The only way to become confident is to gain knowledge and practice. As the disciples spent more time learning from Jesus, the more confident they grew. After He left their confidence continued growing by putting what they learned into action. Today, Jesus is still telling us to not be afraid. We gain confidence by studying the bible. Then our confidence continues to grow by putting His word into action. So, now all you need to do is go grow some confidence!

Freesia

Psalms 55:22-23

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. But you, God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of decay; the bloodthirsty and deceitful will not live out half their days. But as for me, I trust in you.

Observation

White freesias symbolize purity and innocence. They are one of the most popular wedding flowers because they are symbolic of the purity of the bride as well as the trust between the couple. Multicolored freesia bouquets symbolize friendship and thoughtfulness.

Application

‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’, is one of my favorite hymns. When I was a child, I saw my mother as just that, my mother. As I became an adult, I was lucky enough to call her a friend. The love of a parent is wonderful, but a friendship bond is a choice with no expectations. I mean as a parent you are expected to love. It comes with the job. However, we choose our friends. Jesus chose you to be His friend. What a wonderful thought. You WERE chosen.  What a a beautiful thought.

Prayer

Sweat pea

Scripture

Psalms 27:1-4

The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

Observation

When it comes to floral language, the sweet pea flower is associated with delicate pleasure, blissful pleasure, departure, goodbye, thank you for the lovely time and adieu.

Application

Goodbye fear! At least that is what David was trying to convince himself in today’s scripture. These verses were not meant to tell you you will never be afraid. They were to remind you when you are afraid, you have a place to turn. It is not a sin to fear. You are ‘t being punished if you feel afraid. Even Jesus faced fear (Matt 26:36-56). He, like David, knew where to turn and whom to find comfort. The next time fear creeps in, find blissful pleasure in the fact that God is bigger than the Boogie man and bid it adieu. 

Prayer

Lord, thank you for being my shelter of peace and safety when fear tries to overcome me. ~amen

Lily

Philippians 4:4-8

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Observation

Lilies most commonly mean devotion or purity, though meaning can vary by type of lily, culture, and color

Application

Peace that transcends all understanding, I could really use some right now. I am trying hard to rejoice and not be anxious. The part I struggle with is all the “think on these things.” It is hard to find the noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy when all you get slammed with on media is just the opposite. BUT, if it were easy would it be worth doing? This is a treasure hunt. We need to devote ourselves to searching out these gold nuggets. Then hold on to them. Because they are more precious than gold!

Prayer

Lord, I will devote myself to seeking out the good in life and there I will find you. ~Amen

Magnolia

Scripture

1 John 4:17-19

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.

Observation

Magnolias symbolized dignity and nobility. In ancient China, magnolias were thought to be the perfect symbols of womanly beauty and gentleness. In the American South, white magnolias are commonly seen in bridal bouquets because the flowers are thought to reflect and emphasize the bride’s purity and nobility.

Application

“In this world we are like Jesus.” Jesus was a leader. He led people to God. He did this by raising them up and teaching them to be leaders. He didn’t lead by tearing them down and stomping all over them. He did it with love. He did it with dignity and nobility and gentleness. He did not force himself on anyone and he still won’t. If you want to show others Jesus, BE Jesus. Don’t be in their faces, just love them. Let them know you are there and help them up when they fall. Be love!

Lord, thank you for your perfect love and gentleness that you show me every single day! ~Amen

Primrose

Scripture

Hebrews 13:5-6

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

Observation

Primrose blossoms mean many different things.  It’s a symbol for bashfulness.  It’s a symbol for inconstancy.  It also can refer to young love as well as neglected merit. However, the most popular meaning for primrose is “I can’t live without you”.

Application

Puppy love is that first love feeling. It is usually very shallow and doesn’t last because it doesn’t grow deep roots. Our love for objects is very much like that young love feeling. It feels so real, until the next best thing comes along. God’s love is the ‘I can’t live without you love!’ It is deep, complex, and everlasting. It is because of His love, as they say, “I can face tomorrow” and the day after that, and after that, and so on. I really can’t live without His love!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for your everlasting love that sees me through each and every day. ~Amen
