Today’s Scripture…

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Thoughts…

When we are going through trials, it isn’t easy to accept comfort and move on with our lives. We go through a grieving process. When we are finally ready, we hit acceptance. There is nothing wrong with not being OK. It is when we stay in that ‘Not OK’ and refuse to move on, we have a problem.

When that happens, seek out Godly counsel. God will put someone in your life that has walked that path and is ready to lead you through it. They no the rocks and dangerous curves. They will hold your hand and walk by your side. 

When you find yourself on the other side, ask God to send you the next traveler. You know you survived that treacherous journey, now be there for someone else. Give purpose to your journey, if for no other reason than to tick Satan off and make God smile!

Prayer…

Lord, send me someone to comfort today. ~amen

Fear Managed

Today’s Scripture…

Hebrews 13:6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

Thoughts…

Fear is so fake! Fake emotions acting real. However, saying you are fearless is even more fake! We all face fear. We are never fearless. Just because it is generally a fake emotion, it is an emotion nonetheless.

It is not a matter of not feeling the fear. It is a matter of what we do with that fear. Do you let it stop you dead in your tracks and you don’t move? Do you acknowledge it and make a decision based on it? Do you acknowledge it, bring it to God and ask Him what should your next steps be today? Wanna guess which one we should be doing?

Don’t let fear stop you from doing something. Take it to God and ask Him what you should do with it. Fear shouldn’t make us run from life. Fear should make us run to God!

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for letting me bring my fear to you instead of running from it. ~amen

Solace Not Solitude

Today’s Scripture…

Proverbs 18:1 

Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.

Thoughts…

I am the first one to admit to being an isolator. I get drepressed or anxious and it is “Hello darkness, my old friend.” Sometimes, I need a few minutes to regroup. It is when I hunker down, even from God in that isolation that gets me in trouble.

We all need some alone time from the world. It is a great space to meet up with God and prayerfully ask for help. It is not a place to go and try and hide from Him. I don’t care what you have done or didn’t do. Hiding out in our sin is never productive.

Just remember, it is OK, to take a moment to pause. It is Ok, to find a place of solace to seek God. However, don’t let Satan try to trap you in a palace of solitude, no sound judgment will come from that place.

Prayer…

Lord, I want to thank you for providing a place for me to run and be alone with you, when I need it. ~amen.

I’m Here

Today’s Scripture…

Psalm 34:18

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Thoughts…

The holidays can be very rough. You can be in a large crowd and still feel all alone. The pain of a lost loved one, or strained relationships can feel like mountains on your shoulders.

If this is you, I am not going to tell you cheer up, God is near. People mean well, but it never takes the pain away. Instead, I am just going to sit here with you and let you grieve. When you need a hug, I am here. When you need a smile, I am here. When you need to cry, I am here. When you need me to just be quiet, I am here.

I want to show you God’s love. I want to be His ears, eyes, feet and arms. I want to just be here for you when you need and how you need.

Then maybe in a little while you will be ready to pass the love on to another who just needs you here.

Prayer…

Lord thank you for sending me someone to just be here when I need them. Send me to those who need someone today. ~amen

Run To Not Away

Today’s Scripture…

1 Peter 5:7

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Thoughts…

Have you ever felt like running away? I mean running away from the world. You just want to go sit where no one knows you and you have no cares or problems. I have! 

I discovered long ago, there is a place to run to when you feel the world crushing you. It is a place where someone does know you very well. He walks beside you and carries the burden with you. He walks you through your life, so you don’t have to run away from it.

You see when we run to God instead of running away from life, we don’t lose out on all the wonderful things we would miss in our lives.

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for not leaving me alone and carrying my burdens that threaten to crush me. ~amen

Dependable

Today’s Scripture…

Hebrews 13:5 

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Thoughts…

People often look at this verse as two different concepts. If you really read it, God is making one statement. There is nothing in this world we can rely on except Him. Money and worldly possessions are nice. There is nothing wrong with them. We just can’t depend on them.

Jobs are easily lost. Our health comes and goes. Every new object ages and loses its luster and usefulness. God never runs out. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. 

The best part of that sameness is He is always exactly what you need at exactly the right time. He is never too much or too little. He is always on time, not even a second late. 

He sill never leave you or forsake you.

Prayer…

Lord, with you I am never alone and for that I am grateful. ~amen

Praise the Small Stuff

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 44:6-8

6 I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; 7 but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. 8 In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.

Thoughts…

You may have heard the phrase, ‘don’t sweat the small stuff.’ I think we should add, ‘give praise for the small stuff.’

We are quick to realize and give thanks for the ‘big miracles’ in life. Do you ever stop and get excited about the everyday ones? Do you even notice them? Do you give yourself the credit for them or chalk them up to coincidence? 

Let me tell you a little secret, it is perfectly OK to pray for a good hair day. Need a parking spot? Yep, pray! Need help finding your keys? Oh I have prayed for this one before! These are all things to give praise for today also, especially if you didn’t need to pray for them. 

So, praise God for the small stuff and as the saying goes, ‘it is all small stuff!’

Leftovers

Today’s Scripture…

Matthew 14:19

19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

Thoughts…

If you are from the US, I hope today finds you with a fridge full of Thanksgiving leftovers. I know we didn’t get to celebrate quite like we usually do, but I hope you were able to share some love with your family somehow.

When Jesus shared these five loaves and two fish with the people, He fed more than their stomachs. Yes, feeding this many people was a miracle. No one can deny that, but the love He shared was worth so much more.

Mom’s turkey, Dad’s stuffing, Auntie’s casserole and Grandma’s rolls make a wonderful treat. We all have our favorites and can’t wait for Thanksgiving. This year I learned that those dishes don’t mean a lot without the loved ones around the table to enjoy them.

The food and leftovers are a miracle, but the love shared is so much more!

Prayer…

Lord, I thank you for the meal, but I am even more thankful for those I get to share it with. ~amen

Take the Garbage to the Curb

Today’s Scripture…

Philippians 4:8-9

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Thoughts…

Garbage in! Garbage out! That is what this group of verses is referred to as quite often. It makes a lot of sense. Kind of like the ‘you are what you eat’ saying. You can’t expect to be the model of health, if all you eat is Big Macs every single day.

Your mind works on that same principle. Surround yourself with a bunch of happy loving people and you will find your mood go up. Hangout with a bunch of cranky complaining people and watch your mood drop. If this weren’t so, we would have no need for music or comedies. Actually, we wouldn’t have a need for art at all. Hmmm…or comfort food!

My point is when we focus on the good, it doesn’t mean we won’t be touched by the bad. It means we will find the peace and strength to endure it.

Lord, today I choose to take the garbage out and fill my life with good! ~amen

Death No More

Today’s Scripture…

1 Corinthians 15:53-57

53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thoughts…

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” These words sound like they stepped off some dramatic stage performance somewhere. Truth be-had they probably have been used in a play or two. I mean seriously, can’t you almost see the actor taking his last breath, while onlookers are crying. 

That is a very valid sentiment. When we as Christians take our last breath here on Earth, we will take our next in Heaven. Death has no hold on us. Our goodbyes are merely see you later to our loved ones.

My inner child has a little different take on this verse. Her performance would be more like: [looking at Satan] “Satan, you lose. Nana-nana-boo-boo! Stick your head in doo-doo!” [Thumbs in ears, fingers up. Tongue stuck out]

Prayer…

Lord, Thank you for taking the death card from Satan ~amen
