We Are Family

Today’s Scripture…

John 1:11-13

11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Thoughts…

I grew up as an only biological child. I had a foster brother who was just as much a part of the family as me. My brother got married and had two girls. My sister-in-law and nieces were a part of our lives. My brother died and my sister-in-law remarried and had three more children. She was still my sister-in-law, now I had a brother-in-law and two more nieces and a nephew. At least that is how my family looks at it. We are all very close. There is more than enough love to go around!

I got married had three children. They got married which gave me in-laws and had children, giving me grandchildren. I also remarried. My husband had two children who got married and had children. These were also children, in-laws, and grandchildren to me. Again, there was enough love to go around!

Are you kind of following me here? We don’t have to be blood to be considered children or parents, or grandparents to someone. You just have to be loved. God loves us! We are His and He is ours. We were chosen to be His children. He picked us. He loved us so much and still does. No one can take that away from us.

I don’t care if you grew up in a “traditional” home or never met your biological parents. You have a father in heaven that would do anything to save you. As a matter of fact, He did. He sent His biological son to die so you could live. How is that for love?

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for my family and making us a part of yours. ~Amen

Talk to the Hand

Today’s Scripture…

Galatians 2:19-20

19 “For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Thoughts…

When I read these verses this morning, two things came to mind, “Not my problem!”, and “Talk to the hand, cause the ears ain’t listening.” The last one I would like to change to “cause the spirit ain’t listening.” These are two phrases you can shoot back at Satan any old time!

When we become Christians, we are no longer our old selves. We are new. We are filled with Christ. We give Him control of our lives. He gets to take on our mess, if you will. Think about it. If we have a need, where do we turn? If we are in trouble, where do we turn? If we are being tempted, where do we turn. Jesus said to cast all your cars on Him. ALL YOUR CARES! If that doesn’t sound like the perfect, “Not my problem!”, what does!

As for the “Talk to the Hand”, Satan no longer has a hold on you. He does not control your life, or the situations around you. What is going on may be bad, but your response is up to you. You can listen to Satan’s lies and crawl into your little shell of self pity. OR, you can look him straight in the face, throw up that hand and say, “Talk to the had, cause the spirit ain’t listening!” We don’t have to take it from him!

So, which do you choose today? Do you want to follow Jesus or Satan’s lead. I, for one, want to stand up and remind Satan, “Not my problem! Talk to the hand, cause the spirit ain’t listening!”

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for taking care of me. Thank you for for intercepting Satan, so I can look at Him and say. “Not my problem! Talk to the hand!” ~amen

Reconcile the Past to Move Forward

Today’s Scripture…

2 Corinthians 5:17-18

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

Thoughts…

The new year is traditionally a time to set new goals. We look at is a fresh start. However, do you ever really forget the past? Should you ever forget the past?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

And days of auld lang syne?

In Christ, we are new creations the old is gone. The old is gone because we have been reconciled to God through Christ. Now, we are in the business of reconciliation. Reconciliation is forgiveness. It is making things right. It is not forgetting.

Forgetting our past sets us up to fail. We are doomed to repeat past mistakes. I can’t change history by getting rid of it. I have to reconcile it. I need to grow from my mistakes. I need to offer myself forgiveness and move on to a new me.

If you want to make goals this year that you will stick with, reflect on your past. Reconcile with it. Forgive yourself and proceed to grow. If God loves you enough to reconcile you to Him, don’t you think you should offer that to yourself!

Prayer…

Lord, as we move to a new year, help us reconcile with ourselves and each other. ~amen

No More Fear

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 27:1

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

Thoughts…

Fear is the number one tool of choice by Satan. It is an easy one to use on us. Plant that seed and away we run with it! He doesn’t have to even really do any thing. We do the work for him. Well it is about time we changed employers in the area!

We need to stand up and say, No More! We don’t have to accept this anymore. We don’t have to be overshadowed by this darkness that wraps around us. Use your ultimate flash light, or maybe I should say floodlight! We don’t have to accept this feeling of drowning. Reach for your stronghold.

Now, I want you to use your ultimate tool. You look Satan straight in the eyes and tell him who you are and remind him who your Father and Brother are. Oh, and you might remind him, you read the end of the book. HE is the one that should be afraid!

Prayer…

Lord, remind me that You are not my light and stronghold. Remind me who I am! ~amen

Master To Do Lists

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 46:10

10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Thoughts…

I am one of those people who has a master list that I break down to monthly, then weekly, and daily tasks. If it is not on my list, I will most likely forget to do it.

You may not be as insane as me, but I can almost guarantee that the words wait and be still are not what you want to hear.. However, the bible is full of those words. Why? God’s master, monthly, weekly and daily lists are  already filled in for eternity. He knows what we need to do and when.

My lists are always changing, no matter how hard I try to organize them. God’s does not change. We often have to wait to find out the next task until something else is complete. So, as much as it pains me to say this, we need to learn to be still and work by God’s to do lists. Everything will get done!

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for Your master list! I know you know what is best for me. ~amen

Peace

Today’s Scripture

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Thoughts…

Have you ever thought about the phrase, “I give you Not as the world gives you”? I think we commonly use the phrase, “no strings attached.” Jesus gives freely, not because we deserve. We don’t earn it. We also don’t get it equally.

Yes, you read that sentences correctly. We don’t get it equally. Another phrase I use is “fair does not mean equal.” Fair is what we need, when we need it.

The world puts ‘strings’ on everything. It also tries to make everyone believe we always need everything the exact same and perfectly equal. These ideas cause strife and pain. They never bring peace.

Jesus on the other hand came to give us peace by meeting our needs right where we stand!

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for giving me your peace! ~amen

Just a Closer Walk

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 147:3

3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Thoughts…

Just a closer walk with thee! Lord, let it be . Dear Lord, let it be! That is one of my favorite worship songs. My Daddy use to sing it all the time in church. I find comfort and peace when I hear it.

The closer I walk with Jesus, the more I find that peace when I need it the most. He is always there to heal my broken heart and bind up my wounds. I just need to be open to letting Him. When I walk closer with Him, I remember that and I can lay down my shield and let Him take care of me.

We have lived through the trials of 2020. I cannot promise you that 2021 will be better. I can promise you that whatever may come, Jesus will be there to heal your broken heart and bind your wounds. Just walk closer to Him and He will walk closer to you.

Prayer…

Lord, all I want is to walk closer to you. Let it be, dear Lord, let it be! ~amen

Today’s Scripture…

Luke 5:16

16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Thoughts…

First of all, I want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. I hope your day is filled with love, cheer, and peace.

I also hope you get a chance to withdraw from all the merry making for a few moments. Take some time to remember why we celebrate this day. Spend some time with the one who started it all so you could be with Him forever!

 Merry Christmas!

Prayer…

Thank you Lord for coming to Earth so we can come to Heaven with you. ~amen

He Came Down to Your Level

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 32:7

7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Thoughts…

Jesus could have been born into a wealthy family. He could have been born to royalty. There could have been servants waiting on His every need, want and desire. He could have gone to the best schools and graduated first in His class. He could have even studied and apprenticed under the greatest warrior of the time. But He didn’t.

There is nothing wrong with these things. It was just important for Jesus to feel what we feel. He came from Heaven, where He was royalty and waited on and every desire met. He wanted to know what we go through.

It was important to Him to understand feeling the need for a hiding place and protection form trouble that surrounds us. He wanted to feel that full deliverance.

He loved you so much, He left everything to walk in your footsteps. Even better, He is still walking them with you because He understands exactly what you are going though every single day!

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for not only being with me, but understanding me and everything I go through. ~amen

Right Hand

Today’s Scripture…

Isaiah 41:10

10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Thoughts…

According to the NIV Word Study Bible, the right is considered culturally to be stronger and of greater prestige than the left. To be seated on the right side of a ruler is a greater position than on the left side. God is upholding you with He RIGHT hand.

You are loved so much He is reserving His right hand to help you. You are not some second rate citizen. You are not an afterthought. He is saving His best for you. You are not getting His leftovers.

Are you returning the same to Him? Is He an afterthought in your day? Do you pray only when you need something? Do you give Him your best? Meditate long and hard on these answers today. Ask God to show you where you are upholding Him with your left hand.

By the way, I am saying “Ouch!” too.

Prayer…

Lord, I want to give you my best. Show me today where I am not upholding you with my right hand.
