God Created You for a Purpose

Today’s Scripture…

Philippians 1:9-11
9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

Thoughts…

I have to confess, today I am struggling to write. I have no idea what tell you about this passage. I have no twist on it, or application to explain. I just want to pray over each and everyone of you. Then I want you to do something for me. I want you to be bold and courageous. I want you to go out and preach the gospel. I want you to love one another. I want you to love your neighbor. I want YOU to pray this prayer over each other.

Remember we can look at all the problems in the world and join the masses and complain about them. We can be part of the problem OR we can be part of the solution God created. We can pray. We can use what God gifted us and do what He commanded us to do. We can bring God to the world! We can love everyone as ourselves!

Prayer…

Dear Lord, help my friends today so that their love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so they may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. ~ Amen

School Is In!

Today’s Scripture…

John 14:26
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Thoughts…

Have you have ever said anything like, “Why didn’t you listen to me? I told you! I might as well be talking to a wall!” If you have you, you probably are a parent or in a relationship! Seems at one time or another, we believe we know best and expect others to follow our lead.

Well we may not always be right or even have the best advice. It is a good thing that when Jesus left this Earth, He left us with one who could tell us and remind us what we are supposed to be doing. The Holy Spirit is here to guide us through life. We just need to ask. He might gently nudge us from time to but He will never push Himself on us, I can also promise He won’t throw the above comments in our faces. Although, I am pretty sure, I have felt Him roll His eyes at me, but I am sure I deserved it!

Prayer…

Thank you for sending us The Holy Spirit to teach and remind us of Your ways. ~amen

Don’t Be A Hater

Today’s Scripture

1 John 4:11-12
11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Thoughts…

There is no one you meet today that is not loved by God! Not a single person in this world is not loved by God. He sent His son to die for everyone no matter there past or present and He will go on loving them. Just like He loves you. So, if He loves them so much, what gives you the right to hate them?

NOw, I am not saying you have to be best buds, Facebook friends, or even ever be around them at all. I am asking why do you deserve to hate them? Loving your neighbor means not wishing evil upon them. It means you would reach out and save them if they really need the help. It means not wishing them dead.

Do not think I am going all Holier Than Thou on you. I have struggled and continute to struggle with this concept. Letting go of past anger and hurt is not easy. The good news is when I don’t feel like loving someone, I simply ask God to love them through me. Help me see them, as He sees them. THAT is loving your neighbor!

Prayer…

Lord, help me love others and thank you for loving them through me when I don’t. ~amen

Oops!

Today’s Scripture…

1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Thoughts…

I am the type of teacher that was never worried when I made a mistake in front of my students. I didn’t try to cover it up or hide it for fear of looking stupid to them. Instead, I took responsibility and corrected it. I believe it set a good example for what I wanted them to do to become responsible people.

God has never expected us to be perfect either. He knows we are going to screw up. What He does expect is for us to own up to it. All He asks us to do is confess our sins. He is more than happy to forgive us. As a matter of fact, He will walk with us through any situation we find ourself in, if we just reach out to Him.

So don’t be afraid of making mistakes in your life. You have someone ready to pick you up, dust you off and send you out to try again.

Prayer…

Thank you lord for being willing to forgive me and not think any less of me when I make mistakes. ~Amen

Forgive

Today’s Scripture…

Ephesians 2:4-6
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

Thoughts…

I don’t want to burst your bubble, hurt your feelings, or insult you, but…you are not perfect. Something tells me I am not the first or last person to tell you that…LOL! Good news! No one is perfect and God loves us all anyways.

You have been forgiven God put a plan into place for you to be raised up with Christ. He has saved you by grace. It was nothing you did to deserve it, you can’t earn it. You just accept it and keep trying your best to live for Him.

Now is the real ouch. God has forgiven you when you didn’t deserve it. Who are you not forgiving right now? Forgiveness has nothing to do with someone making amends to you first. It is just loving your neighbor. It is about thanking God for forgiving you when you were dead in your transgressions. It has everything to do with giving grace and choosing to be raised in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus..

Prayer…

Lord forgiving others doesn’t come easy, but I will follow your lead and learn to give people grace. ~Amen

His Masterpiece

Today’s Scripture…

Ephesians 2:10
10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Thoughts…

One of the scariest things about being creative is a blank page, piece of wood, canvas or any other mediums you may use. Even writing this blog seems daunting when I first open my iPad. However your mind starts to see a finished product. Your masterpiece begins to form right in front of your eyes.

Do you think God felt that way when He formed you, His masterpiece? Yes, you are His masterpiece. He took a blank page and began writing your story long before He formed you in your mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5).

I often look at my art station and it is a mess. At least to the outsider that is what it probably looks like. However, as the artist I see the picture just waiting to be made from that mess. Isn’t it a wonderful thought that the messy life that swirls around you is all a part of a beautiful painting. God is creating. His Masterpiece!

Prayer…

Thank you for being the Picasso of my life. ~amen

You are in the Right!

Today’s Scripture…

Isaiah 41:10
10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Thoughts…

He’s got the whole world in His hands, but He is upholding you with His right! Yes, that does have significants.

The right is considered culturally to be stronger and of greater prestige than the left; to be seated on the right side of a ruler is a greater position than on the left side (NIV Word Study Bible). Right hands are seen as dominant (sorry my left-handed friends). The point is in literary terms, God is holding you in His strong hand. You are important enough for Him to offer you His best,

For my sports enthusiast, think of it in football terms. That receiver gets the ball and tucks it tightly under his dominant arm. He wants to shield it and protect it from the others. God has got you tucked away ready to take on any defenseman that comes you way and take you right into the end zone.

Prayer…

Thank you Lord for always having me in Your hand! ~Amen

Loving Yourself is not Selfish

Today’s Scripture…

Mark 12:28-31
28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Thoughts…

I have been listening to and reading books by Joyce Meyer for a very long time. She is a big inspiration in my life. I remember her talking on these verses and saying you can’t love your neighbor as yourself, until you learn to love yourself. You cannot give what you do not have.

It is not selfish to take care of yourself. Sometimes to put someone first, you must first take care of yourself. Kind of like the emergency procedures on airplanes. You put the mask on you first and then your child.. If you pass out, who is going to take care of them?

I believe this concept also applies to the first commandment of loving God with all your heart, soul and mind. If you don’t take care of that heart, soul and mind, what are you going to love God with? Besides you are His creation and if you are not taking time to love yourself, you are disgracing His creation. That doesn’t exactly sound like loving Him.

There is a huge difference between being selfish and loving your self. When you are taking care of yourself, you are still being self-sacrificing. You are giving up your wants to do what is right for you. So learn to take care of you. And you will be able love your neighbor as yourself.

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for loving me. Please remind me to stop and take care of this creation so I can love others. ~amen

Go get ‘em Lord!

Today’s Scripture

Matthew 5:43-44
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Thoughts…

Believe it or not, praying, “Go get ‘em Lord!” does not count as praying for your enemies. Believe me, I have tried that one…LOL I am also sorry to say that “change them” is not exactly what God meant in today’s verses either.

Now that is not to say we don’t pray for God to get a hold of them and change their heart towards His will for their life. The things is God does not want us to stop there. He wants us to show real love towards our enemies. We need to pray for things like safety, healing, peace, knowledge, wisdom, discernment, and yes even prosperity, love and forgiveness. These are gifts God gives us even when we don’t deserve it because of His grace.

Jesus set the ultimate example of this. After being persecuted, betrayed, beaten and hung on a cross, He still managed to pray for His enemies. “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:24).

Prayer…

Lord, today I want to thank you for loving me even when I was your enemy. I pray for those I see as my enemy because I know you love them too! ~amen

Fill’Er Up!

Today’s Scripture

Romans 5:5
5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Thoughts…

Some days all you have to hang on to is hope. You know those days. The ones where nothing you do seems to go right. It feels like someone punched you in the gut and then pulled the entire world out from under you.

What makes you continue on anyway? Hope! Hope in a new day. Hope that things will get better. Hope that you will survive. It is hope that makes the darkest moments turn into dawn.

One thing we sometimes forget is hope cannot be taken away from us. We can give it away. We can even let our tanks get low. However, no matter what Satan tries to tell you, hope is always there..

God’s love has been poured out into our hearts. The Holy Spirit is living in you and He is filled with everlasting hope. If you are feeling a little low, just top by the station and fill’er up!

Prayer…

Lord thank you for always being there with a fresh tank of hope for me to draw from. ~amen
