Now Fly!

Psalms 145:15
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.

But I want it now!!! Does this sound familiar? I am guessing you might have even said or thought it yourself from time to time. I know I have. I can be quite impatient when I really want something. I know I am that way when I am going through an issue in life that is uncomfortable. I want out of it now! Fix it Lord, now!

I have to remember His way of fixing it and timing is not mine. He knows the entire situation and also knows the best way for me to get through it. If I were to get out of it too soon, I could be like the caterpillar cut out of his cocoon. Without the struggle, God knows I will never be able to fly!

Lord, I don’t like to struggle, but I know you know exactly how to handle and when to handle my situation. So, help me lern to fly! ~amen

Stop Listen Ask Speak

Proverbs 21:23
Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity.

Think before you speak. How many times have you heard this and how many more times have you not followed through with it? I know I am seriously guilty of this offense. I have paid the price of regrets later.

So, why do we find it so hard? Let me tell you, we are in good company, biblically speaking. Look at Peter. If ever there was a disciple with foot in mouth disease it is him He is the poster child! So don’t feel so bad. Don’t let Satan run you over with this one. Grace has got you covered.

The important thing is to keep trying. Stop, listen and then ask God for the right words to speak. He will come through for you every single time. Beware though, sometimes the words you are suppose to say, may be a little hard to say. You may even want to choke on them. But I promise they will always be the exact words to say, at the exact time to say them.

If you will excuse me, I need to go practice what I preach. I am pretty sure I have some foot removal to perform.

Lord, help me to stop, listen, and talk to you before I open my mouth and insert my foot! ~amen

Sleepless in Peace

Psalms 4:8
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Do you ever lay down to go to sleep and your mind decides it needs to have a long fragmented ADHD conversation with you? You go from everything that happened today, to your list of things you need to do tomorrow. Then it wonders to guilt and shame from your past through a bunch of coulda, shoulda, wouldas. Just when you think it is over, you head down the rabbit hole of what-ifs. Add that to my night terrors and it is no wonder I don’t sleep sometimes.

I am guessing that I am not the only one that plays this nightly game. I would love to tell you I can repeat this verse like a magic spell and go right to sleep every time. Unfortunately, I can’t. However, it is a very powerful tool. I do try to concentrate and meditate on it. It keeps me grounded. On those nights where I feel as though I am too far gone, it is comforting to know that I am not sleepless alone. Even if I can’t sleep, God will keep me company.

Thank You Lord for giving me peace even when I can’t sleep. ~amen

Blind No More

John 9:30-33
30 The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. 32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

I know I picked out verses 30-33 of chapter 9, but I would encourage you to read the entire chapter. The Pharisees were investigating the blind man who was healed by Jesus. Boy did they get an earful from the man. Basically what he said was, “And they called ME blind! You are the real blind ones because you refuse to see the truth!”

The Pharisees wanted to prove Jesus was a fake. They didn’t want to believe He was God’s son, the Savior who had been promised to them. Jesus was so different than what they expected and on top of that He was flat out showing them up and making people believe they could have a personal walk with God. They wouldn’t be needed anymore.

The Pharisees are a representation of what Satan worries about every time we get close to God. His reaction is to kick up our pride and make us believe we know best and don’t need God in our lives. Basically, we get too big for our britches. Don’t let Satan blind you. Wash the mud off so you can see clearly. I promise God’s love is so worth seeing!

Lord, thank you for opening my eyes to the truth. ~amen

Shout!

Psalms 66:16-17
16 Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.
17 I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue.

Do you tell your testimonies as often as you talk about your troubles? Something tells me you are giving me a dirty look and saying ouch right now. Just remember, I only talk about things I experience. In other words, you aren’t the only one feeling that sting.

Do you know how important it is to tell how God has blessed you? You have no idea how many lives you will touch when you share what God has brought you through. You let people know you are not perfect. You don’t have it all together. You have been there, done that, and got the tshirt. You let them know they are not alone. Even more important, you let them see there is a blessing heading their way if they just hang on too.

So don’t be shy. Yell it out from the mountain tops what God has done for you. Besides, if you are busy shouting about the good, you won’t have time to concentrate on the bad!

Lord, I want to thank your for all the many blessings you place in my life every single day! ~amen

It Can Be Well with Your Soul

1 Peter 3:10-12
For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

When I first read this I had a questions. If God isn’t listening to those who do evil, how will He know when they are reaching out to Him? Then I realized if their heart is right and they are truly reaching out to change their ways, they will be doing good. It is at that moment He is prepared to listen to them. Grace will be offered to them.

I do want to point out that grace isn’t a get out of jail free card. Grace is a you are forgiven from God. We still have to face consequences of our actions here on Earth. The difference is now you will not face them alone.

You see it is just like everyone else. When you are doing the good, all of our days not filled with rainbows and unicorns. But these verses give us the tools to find them in the middle of the dark stormy days. We can weather the storms that surround us if we concentrate on the good and stay away from the evil even when we are paying for the evil we have done.

In the end, stay away from evil, then we can say, It is Well With My Soul!

Lord thank you for being with me through the dark days even when I am the cause of them. ~amen

Grab Your Shades

Psalms 34:4
4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Fear, dread, anxiety, I don’t care how you package it it all means you have lost hope. These are all tactics of Satan to put you in that deep park pit and make you believe there is no way out. He is wrong!

Don’t let him put you there and tell you that lie. i suffer with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I am all too familiar with that pit. Somedays I feel like it is a second home. However, when I am there I fight to lift my head high. I cling to that promise that the Lord will answer me and-deliver me from ALL my fears, no matter what package Satan is putting it into today.

Hang on tight to that hope and lift your head to the Son. You may not see Him or feel His warmth on your face, but I promise He hears you and will shine upon you again! Your futures so bright you’ll have to wear shades!

Lord, thank your for hearing my cry and delivering me from all my fears. ~amen

Get Up Again

Micah 7:7-8
7 But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Israel Will Rise
8 Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.

It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up. ~Vince Lombardi

We will all get knocked down. We are human and we live in a broken world. We face trials and lose. We get hurt by people we know, people we don’t know, and even those we love. We get sick. We lose jobs. Life isn’t fair and it never will be here on Earth.

But we have hope for sunshine when we are setting in the middle of a storm. God promises to never leave us or forsake us. Because of this promise we know in our darkest hours the Lord will be our light and we will rise again.

The best news is one day that rising will be up to Heaven, where we will never fall again!

Lord thank You for picking me up when I fall down. ~amen

Who Is Your Greatest Enemy?

Psalms 18:2-3
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.

Who is your enemy? I won’t deny the fact, that certain people do come to mind. However, even more than that my emotions, habits, and attitudes come to my mind first. If I really sit down and think about enemies, people are last on my list. I am first!

I struggle with pride. I say that because I am a firm believer that any bad habit can be taken right back to pride. It is my pride that gives me my I don’t care, I can do what I want, when I want thoughts. These lead me to not working out, overeating, and just being lazy. When I am not taking care of myself, I start losing my emotional and mental battles. This leads down to a spritual battle and before you know it I am totally defeated.

Here is the good news. Anywhere down that rabbit hole, I have a God that is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer. I just need to cry out for help. I can be saved even from my worst enemy…ME!

Lord thank You for saving me from my worst enemy…ME!

U there?

Psalms 116:1-2
1 I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
2 Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.

I would never be the person who would tell you the only person you can depend on is yourself. On the other hand, it is not fair to others for you to think you can always depend on them. I have family and friends that I love dearly and would do my best to always be there to meet their needs. However, it is unrealistic to think I can meet all of their needs all of the time.

We are fortunate to have someone in our life that can be everything we need all of the time. God hears our every desire and need. I am not saying He is a genie in a lamp and going to grant our every wish. I am saying, He is there to listen to us, laugh with us, cry with us, and, problem-solve with us, and yes pick us up, dust us off to try again. Isn’t that what we really need? We just want someone to hear us and not go through this life alone. With God, that will never happen!

Lord, thank You for always being there all the time for me and hearing me. ~amen
