Monkey Trap

1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

There was once a monkey who really wanted a ball that was placed in a bottle. He stuck his hand inside and grabbed it only to find he then not get his hand out. He tugged and tugged but to no avail. He just couldn’t get out the coveted ball or his hand. Finally, he let go of the ball and as he slid his hand out the ball came tumbling out also.

Laugh if you will, but I often become that monkey. I want something and go after it with all my gusto! Then when the frustration sets in I just can’t figure out why I don’t have it the way I want it and NOW! When I let go and let God, things play out just like they should when they should. As a matter of fact, things tend to turn out even better than I ever expected.

Life won’t always be easy, but we can quit trying to have it our way. We can cast our frustrations and worry on God. Then let go and let God!

Help me Lord to remember to let go and let You take over. ~amen

Peace Be With You

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

The irony of me having to write about this today. I had a tooth pulled yesterday that I broke about a month ago. I have no fear in pain or needles. However, my PTSD kicks in when I feel trapped, strangled or can’t swallow or breath. On the way to the appointment I was all ready for a PTSD moment to kick in big time.

When I sat down in the chair, i was still waiting for it to hit me. My husband and service dog were with me. I did everything worldly possible to keep calm and relax. It wasn’t until I closed my eyes, prayed and took a breath that I was ready to accept the peace God was so willing to pour out on me.

Yes, I live with a mental illness. Yes, I have very little control over my attacks hitting me. What I do have control over is being proactive to my triggers. I also have the power to pray and accept the peace so freely given. I can choose to hang on to that peace with all my might to get me through to the other side of my blackhole. Then I can thank God for that peace and understanding when it is all over with.

Thank You Lord for Your peace and I don’t have to rely on the worlds’ peace. ~amen

What’s in your core?

Psalms 62:1-2
1 Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

I wish I could say I have lived by this verse and have never been shaken. However, my world has been shaken to its core more times than I care to admit. I have been shaken right down to my knees., right where God wanted me.

Yes, you read that right. If I am going to let life shake me down, where better place to go than on my knees. That is where I find my fortress, my rock, my salvation. That shaken to my core is where I find out what is my core. Who do I rely on when there is nothing to hang on to!

What is at your core? I can guarantee your outer world will be shaken many times. If your core is not resting in God your world will shatter apart. It is when that core is strong built of the rock of your salvation that the Earth can quake, but you will not be shaken.

Let the world quake. On the solid rock I stand. ~amen

Technology?!?!?!?!?!

Psalms 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

Want to meet with God? Quit running ahead of Him! Technology was suppose to make our lives easier and in many ways it most certainly has. It has also left us busier. Because things are easier, we jam more things into our lives. We keep running from one thing to the next and forget to breathe. Peace goes out the door.

I don’t know about you, but I need to take time to just rest and be still. I need God to fill me up. There are also times, when being still is exactly what God wants me to do because He needs to fight the battle. If I try it, I will just screw it all up. Much like when I put too much on my plate because I am so sure I can handle more since I have all this technology to help me out.

God is so much bigger than we are. He is so much more all powerful and all knowing than we are. So, why don’t we just be still and let Him do His job. By the way, He doesn’t even need the technology. . . LOL!

Teach me to be still and let You do Your job. ~amen

Be careful what you wish for!

Psalms 37:7
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Be careful saying, “I wish I had what they have.” Also don’t say I wish I were more like… You have no idea how those people got to where they are and you may not be able to handle their walk. Remember, King David became a loved and successful king, but look what he lived through to get there!

God has a plan for each and everyone of us. This plan is just as unique as you are. We have certain steps we have to take to get to our success stories. It never seems fair when we see all these people around us with their perfect social media posts of perfect family, vacation, house, even dinner plate. It hurts even more when we see someone who has hurt us or others become successful.

The thing is you are already blessed. You are a child of God. Your every step with Him is made perfect. You just need to learn to live and grow right where you are. Be the success God made you to be!

Lord I am overjoyed by the blessings you provide for me every single day. ~amen

Sleep in Peace

Psalms 4:8
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, LORD,
make me dwell in safety.

I cannot tell you how many times I have repeated this verse to convince myself everything would be OK. At night it seems every demon decides it is time to push my buttons and fill my head with thoughts. I literally have nights where I am afraid to go to bed. It is true. Ask my husband.

Now, I live with PTSD, anxiety and depression. Not everyone sees the world through my eyes. However, I am willing to bet you have spent some restless nights in your life. Wrestling with issues in the past or decisions about the future are common thoughts. They can hit us anytime of the day. Why is it they seem to strike the hardest at night?

I can tell you why. Satan wants to steal your peace. He is going to hit you when you are at your weakest. When that happens, you need to take back your night. Repeat after me, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

Thank You for providing me peace and safety when I need it the most. ~amen

Stop by for a refill!

Exodus 33:13-14
13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”
14 The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

I lose focus. I let fear, anxiety, and worry take over my every thought. I leave myself frustrated, overwhelmed, and angry. If I don’t do something and fast, the cycle will continue on and on and on!

It is at that moment, I must stop and breathe. I have to sit back and gain focus again. I will be honest some days it means take a nap. I usually find these struggles when I have poured more out of my cup than I ever filled it with. I need a refill! It is time to have tea with God!

God always has a hot pot of tea (or coffee if you choose) ready and waiting to refill your cup. You just have to seek Him out and ask for it. Then, His presence will go with you and He will give you rest! This way you can go fill others up also!

So, was that one lump or two my friend?

Thank you Lord for always being ready to refill my cup! ~amen

Sleep in Peace

Psalms 127:1-2
1 Unless the LORD builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.

When faced with a problem, do you pray about it as much as you talk about it? When you lay your head down at night, do you give in to the what ifs floating in your head? Do you lose sleep over the past or the future? Why?

I. can tell you why. It is because you are listening to the wrong voice. Open your ears and hearts to the the only voice that matters. God is speaking if you will just listen. Then follow that voice and stand firm.

You can stand firm against all those other voices around you because you will know what is right. You will know the truth. Even when all you can do is stand, stand. Then even with loud voices shouting for your attention, your head will hit that pillow and peace will surround you. Why? he grants sleep to those He loves.

Lord, thank You for giving me rest when the world tries to keep me up.

Rest in the Lord

Psalms 121
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

I know I usually try to have something profound to say about the daily scripture. However, today I think the scripture definitely speaks for itself. What more can I say, except know this:

GOD IS ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU!

Lord, thank You for always looking out for me and being with me in every situation that comes. Thank You for never sleeping so I can! ~amen

No Point!

Genesis 4:8
8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

It is so much easier to point a finger at others and their faults. We read today’s verse and say, “Well, I would never be a Cain.” Today I want you to take a second and look down at your hand. Do you see those three little fingers pointing right back at you?

There is a couple of things the bible has to say about judging others. They all revolve around, “Don’t!” The reason is because we have no room to speak. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23).

OK, I hear you saying, buy at least I haven’t murdered anyone. Well here is what the bible has to say about that. Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him (1 John 3:15) Ouch! Hate is like murder. Maybe you are perfect and never had hateful thoughts about someone else. If so, well kuddos to you. I happen to be among those who have thrown around that hate word.

I can bring you good news. For the wages of sin is death, but God offeres eternal life. He sent Jesus to die for ALL of Us and ALL of our sins. So from now on stretch out all your fingers, put your hands together in prayer and ask forgiveness for your own sins.

Lord, I am so grateful that You know we are sinners, yet You love us and forgive us when we screw up. ~amen
