God Gives You Wings!

Isaiah 40:31

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

There is one little word in today’s scripture that makes me cringe, ‘wait’. As a matter of fact, I actually prefer the NIV version which says, “those who hope in the Lord”. I usually use the NIV for my blog but God had other plans today. I am sure they have something to do with my dislike for the word, wait.

The old saying, “Man plans, God laughs”, rings true to my heart. I get faced with a problem and my first reaction is to pull it apart and start making a plan of attack. I am not saying that it isn’t good to solve our problems. The problem is I often forget to check in with God and get His advice first. I also sometimes run ahead of God when I don’t think His plan is going fast enough.

I am just trying to be real with you guys here. You see when I don’t wait on the Lord, I certainly don’t get things done well or even right at all. I find myself frustrated, exhausted, overwhelmed, and certainly faint. No amount of caffiene will get me through. I need to learn to wait. When I do, I get the job done so much better and easier. Believe me! Red Bull doesn’t give you wings. God does!

Lord, remind me to wait and not get ahead of my wings! ~amen

Be the Storm

Mark 4:39-40
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

I want to pair today’s verse with these verses from John. “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it” (John 14:12-14).

Why would I put these verses together? You see, we have the power to quiet the storm inside of us. We can stand firm and tell Satan to, “Quiet! Be still!” Jesus left that authority to us. We don’t have to wait for someone to save us. We don’t have to be defeated or concede to the storm. We can choose to make the chaos STOP!

Remember when Satan tells you aren’t strong enough to withstand the storm, remind him you are the storm!

Thank You Lord for giving me the power to become the storm! ~amen

Christianity is NOT for the Weak

Revelation 14:12
12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.

There is an old say, “all things come to those who wait.’ Waiting however, never comes easy.

Do you know how many times the word ‘endurance’ is used in the bible? Let me tell you how many. According to my concordance, there are 90 occurrences
So, lets just say it is said a lot.

Endure means to suffer (something painful or difficult) patiently or remain in existence. A few synonyms include: go through, face, ride out, suffer, undergo, cope with and take it patiently. I don’t know about you, but none of those sound easy to me.

Our endurance will reap rewards. In the mean time keep your head held high. Never forget, the meek may inherit the Earth, but there is nothing weak about being a Christian!

Lord, you are so worth the endurance and thank You for being with me every step of the way. ~amen

#TeamJesus

Isaiah 26: 3-4

3 You will keep in perfect peace

    those whose minds are steadfast,

    because they trust in you.

4 Trust in the Lord forever,

for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Here we go! I want another word study today. Today’s blog is brought to you by the word “steadfast”. It is an adjective that means constant, dedicated, devoted, devout, down-the-line, faithful, fast, good, loyal, pious, staunch, steady, true, true-blue, dependable, dutiful, reliable, responsible, solid, tried, tried-and-true, trustworthy, trusty, unfaltering, unhesitating, unwavering, determined, intent, resolute, confirmed, dyed-in-the-wool, sworn, avid, enthusiastic, fervent, fervid, gung ho, impassioned, passionate, and serious. I personally would like to add one more phrase: Die hard!

Are you a die hard sports fan? Can you say the same about your relationship with God? Ever wonder what it would be like if everyone got ready for church like they did a sporting event. I mean I’m all for tailgating in the church parking lot! By the way, this Pastor’s wife would be happy to supply the gatorade to pour over the Pastor after a great sermon. Just saying.

Seriously though, there are people all over the world that will die today in the name of Christ. Are you willing to be steadfast in your faith today? Grab your gear and join the team because We Are the CHAMPIONS!!!!!!

Lord, help me remain steadfast in You! I know You are the true champion of this world! ~amen

Rest in His Shadow

Psalms 91:1-2

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

On a warm sunny day, I love to sit on a blanket under a big old tree. Give me a good book or my paints and I am so content. If you throw in a picnic basket, well, I am pretty sure life can’t get any better. In that shelter, I find peace and can refresh my soul.

Isn’t in marvelous to know when we seek the shelter of God, we can rest in His shadow. I mean really, how awesome is it to think that He is so powerful that even just His shadow can give you rest.

Here is the thing the shadow of my tree and the shadow of God both require me to do something. I have to seek them out. I have to be active in finding my peace. I must dwell in the shelter to find my shadow. I must trust God will be there when I need that shadow, refuge, fortress, and shelter.

Don’t give up. When you need that rest grab you blanket and go enjoy some time in the shadow!

Thank You Lord for letting me restore my soul in You r shaddow. ~amen

Refuge

Psalms 62:8
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

I want to do a word study today. Let’s look at the word ‘refuge’. A refuge is defined as “shelter or protection from danger or distress.” Taking refuge is like finding a safe place during a storm, or getting comfort in a time of trouble. Synonyms would include: sanctuary, place of shelter, shelter, place of safety, haven, safe haven, sanctum, safe house, harbour, port in a storm, ark. retreat, bolthole, foxhole, hiding place, hideaway, hideout, fastness. querencia.

What I want to point out today is that these things are temporary. They are places we seek out in our time of need but don’t stay there. God is our refuge. He wants us to run to Him, pour out our hearts with all our needs. However, we can’t just stay and hide from the world.

Our God is a good father. He wants to dry His children’s tears, put band aids on the boo-boos, kiss them on the head and let them run back out to play. He doesn’t smother His children or wrap them in bubble wrap. He knows we need to learn to fly! However, when we fall again and skin our knee. He will be waiting with open arms for us to run back to our refuge for a littlr first aid.

Thank You Lord for being my refuge when. I need a little first aid. ~amen

So you may have peace!

John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

You know I love Jesus, but does anyone else read John 16:33 and want to tell Him, “Understatement of the year!” I mean really Lord, “in this world you will have trouble”? Please I hope you don’t think I am irreverent, but the phrase that comes to mind is, “Thank you Captain Obvious!”

The good news is no matter what comes to mind when you here those words, our answer to the world is right there. As a matter of fact, let’s take a moment and rewrite this verse. Listen to Jesus’ words like this… “Take heart! I have overcome the world.” We could answer just about any comment, question, or concern with this simple statement.

No, seriously, try it for yourself. Insert any problem here _, and now tell yourself “Take heart! Jesus already overcame it!” No the problem may not go away, but we can find peace in knowing God sees us. He knows we have an issue. He is on it and has a plan! Remember He has told you this so you can stop worrying and accept His peace!

Thank you Lord for giving me the answer to all my problems! ~amen

A Warm Hug

Psalms 3:3-5
3 But you, LORD, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
4 I call out to the LORD,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.
5 I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.

I often have this picture in my head of me entering this huge thrown room. It is long and wide. The doors are very tall I seem so small as I crack them open and creep inside. I stare at the ground, my hands in my pockets, kicking at an invisible rock on the floor.

At other end of the long white corridor is an oversized white thrown. Sitting upon it is this oversized Zeus like being. Long white hair and beard. He is busy answering questions, signing documents and all the other important things he must attend to while running the universe.

I only stand there a moment before he looks up and sees me. Noticing my hurt expression, he dismisses everyone else.. I look up and catch his eye. Soon a bright smile fills his face and he opens his arms wide. I run as fast as I can and leap into his lap. He rocks me and cuddles me as I tell him all about my day.

I don’t know how you envision God, but this is my view. I desperately need that shield around me. I know I need my head lifted on high. This world tears me apart, but Abba is there to hear about this daughter’s day, dry her tears, dust her off and get her ready to face the bullies again!

Lord , Thank You for caring about my day. ~amen

Brave the Storm

Matthew 8:24-26
24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

Do you ever have one of those, ‘Wow! I can’t believe that worked!’ moments? You are in the middle of your storm. You cry out to the Lord, and then the storm breaks. Not only are you happy, but you are so excited and surprised the Lord came through. Don’t worry you are not alone. I think we all have those moments. I am sure the disciples did.

I am not so sure Jesus was upset with them for being afraid of the storm or for waking Him up with doubt that He would or could do anything about it. He saw their hearts, we do not. Fear of a situation is real. It is when we let that fear bring along its buddy doubt that we lose faith in the One who can Master the storm!

Storms are inevitable in our lives. It is when we learn to ride them out trusting God will handle it that we truly conquor them. Remember the old saying. When Satan says you can’t survive the storm. Remind him you are the storm!

Thank You for taming my storms! Amen

God in the darkness

Psalms 116:5-9
5 The LORD is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
6 The LORD protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return to your rest, my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.
8 For you, LORD, have delivered me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,
9 that I may walk before the LORD
in the land of the living.

If you are new to my blog, I am a person who deals with PTSD, depression and anxiety. I am a suicide survivor. These verses are a life line to me! David and I walked many similar roads.

David’s life was a series of ups and downs. Some by his choice roads were by the choices he made, others were by the choices of others. The one thing about David that stands out to me is even in his darkest moments he knew where to turn. He knew it was God that was going to travel along side of him and lead him through it. Even when he was the reason for his own dark issue by some bad choices.

I don’t have a corner market on depression because of my mental illness. We all go through dark times in our lives. We all need to remind ourselves that God is still there in the dark. You may not be able to see Him or feel Him, but He is there. He doesn’t just know where you are, He is there! You are Not Alone!

Lord, thank You for never leaving me alone no matter where I go! ~amen
