Don’t Forget

James 1:23-25
23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

In one ear and out the other! Have you ever heard or said that phrase? I admit I have been on both ends of that conversation. I am pretty sure I even had that little talk with myself.

In today’s verses, we see the same concept. James talks about us knowing what is right and choosing to not do it. It creates that most horrific word that plagues Christianity – hypocrite! That is exactly what we become when we chose to turn our back on God.

Now We all make mistakes. James 5:16 tells us to confess your sins to one another and pray for one another. In other words, when we walk away from the mirror and forget who we are, we must return to it and find ourselves again. So adjust your crown in the mirror and go show the world just who you belong to today!

Lord, I don’t want to be just a hearer of Your word. I want to be a doer. ~amen

Knowledge is Dangerous

John 8:31-32
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

I recently read a blog from Rebecca Barlow Jordan. She talked about the “six truths about God that can change your life.”

  1. God’s love is unfailing (Jeremiah 31:3)
  2. God’s character is unchangeable (James 1:17)
  3. God’s power is unlimited (Luke :37)
  4. God’s forgives absolutely (Micah 7:19)
  5. God’s promises are unending (Deuteronomy 7:9)
  6. God’s sovereignty is unexplainable (Romans 11:33)

Satan knows the danger in this information. He is doing everything he can to keep it from you. The minute you know and fully understand these truths you will forever be set free from his grasp. You will come to understand there is nothing Satan can do to you that God cannot see you through. There is no power that can enslave you anymore. Death is no longer you destination.

You are a child of God. He loves you with everything He has. This truth you need to know. This truth will set you free.

Lord, help me share Your truth to others so they may be set free. ~amen

You’ve Got the Power!

Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,

You have been anointed! Yes, you! The day you said yes and accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior you became anointed by the Lord. His Spirit became a part of you and you a part of Him.

We must remember a statement Popularized by Spiderman’s Uncle Ben,“With great power comes great responsibility.” Our anointing comes with great responsibility. It is our job to bring the gospel to others. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

We are the hands and feet of God. Through us He will proclaim good news to the poor. He will bind the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom for the captives and release the prisoners from the darkness. Are you ready to share God to the world? He will give you the power when you are ready for the responsibility.

Lord, I am thankful you chose me before I even knew You. With Your power I want to share You with the world. ~amen

Free Time

2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Do you know the beauty of Christianity? We have a living God. Our God is always around us. He came to live among us. He went a step further. He died, was resurrected and then ascended back up into Heaven. Before leaving, He promised to send us His Spirit to live in us. The Holy Spirit is what makes us free.

We no longer have to find a priest to sacrifice for us. We no longer have to go to a priest and have him enter the holy of holies in the temple. We have been set free. We have the Holy of Holies inside us. We are the temple.

As a child of God you have the freedom to seek Him out and speak to Him whenever and wherever you want. Nothing and no one can take that away from you, not even Satan himself. So what are you waiting for? Free up some time to spend with Him.

Lord, I am so thankful for the freedom to speak with You wherever and whenever I need. ~amen

Freedom Wasn’t Free

Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

God did the hard part willingly giving up His one and only Son to die for our sins. Christ did the hard part, being tortured, crucified, and resurrected for our sins. We have the easy part. We just stand firm and do not let ourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

We all love getting things for free. Free coffee, free donuts, free oil change are some of my favorites. However, our freedom was not free. It cost dearly, but we didn’t pay for it. All we have to do is claim it.

So why is it so hard to stay free? Why do we let our sins enslave us over and over again? We make that choice to let “me and my needs” be more important than what Christ did for us.

Our freedom came at a price. Isn’t it about time we all started acting like it. Today I choose to stand firm and do not let ourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. How about you?

Thank You Lord for paying the price for my freedom. ~amen

Victory

Revelation 21:7
Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

Victorious means to win a victory, be triumphant. Other synonyms include: conquering, vanquishing, winning, champion, and successful. It does not mean perfect and get it on the first try. To be victorious means you faced a battle of some sort.

Thomas Edison has many quotes on victory.
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
“Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.”
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is to try just one more time.”
My personal favorite is, “When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this – you haven’t.”

The point in all of this is victory doesn’t happen over night. It isn’t being perfect all of the time. It is a battle we all fight every single day. There will come a day when God says our battles are over and if we have been faithful and never gave up, we will be victorious and inherit all God has for us.

Lord, give me the strength to carry on in life. I want to be victorious and inherit all You have for me. ~amen

No More Tears

Revelation 21:4
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

Johnson and Johnson runs an add campaign stating their shampoo guarants no more tears. Let me tell you, you get enough of that stuff in your eyes, you still have tears and lots of them. I have a guarantee for you, you are not going to get through this lfie with no more tears.

Our lives are filled with heartache because we are not robots. We were given emotions. We all react to things differently. You may not have actual tear duct producing salty water falling from your eyes, but your spirit still cries. Why? Because bad things happen in our world. We see death, we morn, and we have pain. This will not always be so, I can also guarantee that!

A day will come when God will say enough is enough. He will wipe away every tear from all our eyes. We will not experience death or morning or crying or pain. For now, hang in there and know you are not alone. We all mourn and we can mourn together. God will be our strength to see us through.

Lord, we may not be able to get through this life without tears, but a day will come when your promise will be fulfilled. For now, thank You for being my rock and strength to see me through rough times. ~amen

No More Seas

Revelation 21:1
1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

Some people believe Revelations is literal, others believe it is symbolic and there is more than meets the eye. I want to preface this blog with the fact that this is totally my opinion. After much prayer, this is what i felt God was telling me about today’s verse.

The one thing that stuck out to me today was that there was no longer any sea. The sea was the divide for people of that day and age. It seemed insurmountable or uncrossable. No one knew what was on the other side. It separated them. I took this verse to mean there would be no more separation. We will all come together. There will be nothing left to divide us, no ideas that make us fuss and fight with each other. We will be as one, the way that it was always meant to be from the beginning.

Can you imagine a place where there is no longer division. No more news or social media or politics to give us fuel to hate one another. I don’t know about you, but count me in! I am so ready to say good-bye to this world and step into that new heaven and earth!

Lord, I long for the day where there is no more division among our people. ~amen

Peace + Joy = Hope

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

True joy and peace cannot be manufactured. These are fruits of the Spirit. They are given to us by God. They are not just feelings or state of minds. Joy and peace are what we find in the middles of our storm and in our everyday mundane lives. They are not fleeting moments like the happiness from eating your favorite chocolate bar (OK, the chocolate bar may just be me.)

These times of joy and peace give us hope for the future. NO matter what our circumstances God can and will come to the rescue with joy and peace. This joy and peach then lead to that glimmer of hope that you will get through. That glimmer ripples out and grows bigger and bigger. Before you know it, you are ready to face down that circumstance and conquer it!

All I have left to say is, may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, thank You for Your joy and peace that lead to overflowing hope! ~amen

Challenge Accepted!

Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

When I read today’s verses, the first thing that popped in my mind was, “Go big or go home!” Seriously, it reads like a challenge from Paul, doesn’t it? Kind of a what do you have to lose, just do it, kind of challenge. Paul was pretty good with the pre-game pep talks!

The moment you are outed as a Christian, the world is watching you. They want to see if you can walk the walk, talk the talk and all that jazz. So why not show them all you got! What is it you got, you may ask? You got JESUS! He is the perfecter of our faith. That means when we do screw up, we have grace! What the world really needs to see is that grace. We need the world to see it is OK that we AND they don’t have to be perfect. They just have to keep running the race.

No one walking into a church is ever perfect. No one sitting in a pew (or behind a pulpit) is ever perfect. No one who walks out of that church is perfect. As Christians, we are just made perfected by the blood of Jesus. We thank God every day that we may not be where we need to be, but we aren’t where we used to be either. So stop watching and listening to the world and their opinions and keep those eyes focused on the only One that matters. Shut the crowd out and keep running the race!

Lord, challenge accepted! Let’s run this race! ~amen
