Psalms 23:3
He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.

Yesterday, my doctor put me on a new seizure med and I had to take an extra dose to get me kick started. Little did we know that it would leave me beating Barry Allen, the Flash, in a footrace! Wowzer! My brain was going Bing! Zoom! Bing! Zoom! Then at about 2:30 it went CRASH!!!

How many times do we feel our lives racing out of control? Sometimes it is our fault and others it is just circumstances that surround us. Not matter which today seems to be leading you, know this God is there to refresh your soul. He is there to give you rest even in your busiest of moments.

I know this day and age we feel like our lives are going 100 miles per hour. Let’s face the Autobahn has nothing on us! I can tell you iIf we learn to plug in to our GPS (God’s Path Selection), He will lead us down the path we need to go that takes you through around the traffic and through all the construction. We don’t have to worry about a crash! You know what the best part is? He even has rest stops built in for the trip! So grab your snacks and let’s go!

Lord, I want to be plugged into your GPS! I know you will lead me down the right paths and even provide much needed rest stops! ~Amen

What is Your Peace Worth

1 Peter 4:7-9
7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

I know yesterday I talked about the end being inevitable and we couldn’t do anything about it. Guess what that is still true today, only now you are one day closer. However, don’t let that worry or make you afraid or anxious. Embrace it and then move on and live your life. Above all, love others deeply and offer hospitality to everyone and stop grumbling. Why? Life is just too short to spend it in hate and grumbling all the time.

We have 525, 600 minutes in a year. How many of those minutes do you waste on fights and grumbling over things that are meaningless. When I was a teacher, we use to say, “Pick your battles.” This means learning to know when it is really an issue that needed to be addressed and when to just ignore something and let it go.

Your time is too precious to be wasted on things that do not matter. Jesus came to give you a life and a life more abundantly. Use it to love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Pick your battles today. What is really worth giving up your peace, smile and time.

Lord help me remember today, some battled are just not mine and my peace is too precious to waste. ~amen

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes

Ecclesiastes 7:2
Death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart.

I as I get older, I realize death is getting closer. I mean I realize from the moment of your first breath that is true and we never really know when that last breath is going to come. Why is it then we spend so much of our time saying things like, “I will do (fill-in the blank) when I (fill-in the blank).” I am particularly talking to the those of us who are not the “ideal” weight. Why do we wait until we are at the right weight? Yes, that is fun to say…lol!

Seriously, God wants us to live our lives and live it more abundantly (John 10:10). Don’t put off things you can do today. Let’s kick those bucket lists. What is it you have always wanted to do or try? Don’t let your weight or age stop you or give you an excuse. I ran marathons and half marathons at 230lbs. Put me on a bike, yep I have done metric centuries (67 miles). My next adventure is a standing paddle board. Will I make myself giggle and everyone around me. You bet! However, through those giggles will be lots of cheers and encouragement. Don’t let anyone tell you are too fat, old, young or whatever. Death is the destiny of everyone; take heart today and live your life today!

Thank you Lord for giving me a life to live and live more abundantly. I know death is eventual and I will then be with You, but while I am here I want to have some fun too! ~amen

Traps and Pitfalls

Psalms 91:2-4
2 Say this: “GOD, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and I’m safe!” 3 That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. 4 His huge outstretched arms protect you—under them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm.

Have you ever come across a car accident, only to realize if you hadn’t lost your keys and been delayed leaving, you would have been that car? I have. I have a son who was hit by a car and missed severing his jugular vein by a millimeter.because he happened to roll the right way. I know a person that was suppose to be by the twin towers the day they fell twenty years ago. I don’t believe in coincidence. I believe in a God with plans for your life.

There are a million little decisions we make every single day that could change our entire life. We have no idea just how many times God intervenes. We don’t see the many traps He rescues us from or deadly hazards He shields us from every single day.

I realize we all go through horrific times in our lives. I know how hard it is to worship and thank God during those moments. You can’t imagine how things could get any worse. They can! Those are the times we definitely need to be crying out, “God You are my refuge. I trust in You and I am safe!”

Lord, You are my refuge and I thank You for intervening and steering me away from traps and pitfalls everyday. ~amen

Never give Up

Psalms 86:15
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

I almost always write the verse in the NIV version but I read it in several others also. Today, the Message version caught my eye. “But you, O God, are both tender and kind, not easily angered, immense in love, and you never, never quit.” More specifically, the “never quit’ hit my heart.

Our God never quits. He never quits reaching out to that loved one you have been praying for all this time. He hears you and sees you every single time your knees hit that ground and you look up asking Him to once again find a way to bring them back to Him. He not only sees you and hears you, but He continues to send out angels to reach that person. Most importantly, when you are ready to give up and maybe even turn your back on that person, God isn’t! His love and faithfulness know no bounds.

It is so wonderful that God doesn’t quit loving and waiting. He is so very compassionate and gracious. He will not quit on a single person on your prayer list. So don’t you give up because once upon a time you were on someones prayer list too.

Lord you never give up on me, so I will not give up on praying for those in need of you! ~amen

Are You Listening?

Ephesians 4:23
Be made new in the attitude of your minds.

I am not sure if I am the only person like this, but when God speaks to me in threes, it really gets my attention. It is not that I don’t pay attention to God, but when I see three messages close together about the same thing, I am like, OK, stop God really needs me to listen to this one! My husband teases me and says it is because I need to hear it from God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. . . LOL! Well today has been one of those days!

I am blessed to be a part of the launch team for an upcoming book from Sheila Walsh, Holding on When You Want to Let Go (by the way it is AWESOME!!!). I read chapter 8 and it talked about change. Today I did my morning devotion from Joyce Meyer and it talked about fresh starts. Then I was praying about what to write on today and this verse pops up from an old Our Daily Bread devotion. Hmmm. . . Yep! I think God is trying to tell me something.

Here is the funny part. I am not going talk to you about new beginnings. I want to remind you to listen! You want to know what is coming around the bend, learn to listen to God. He will give you the weapons or tools you need to work through anything. Hopefully He won’t have to tell YOU three times to make a point. . . LOL!

Lord, thank You for shouting a little louder when I need to hear something. ~amen

It was there all along

Psalms 33:4-5
4 For the word of the LORD is right and true;he is faithful in all he does. 5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love.

Have you ever played the glad game? Maybe you haven’t even heard about it. It is from an old Disney movie called Pollyanna. Her father made it up. Basically, it teaches you to always look for something good to concentrate on even when all around you nothing seems right. In other words, always look for the Lord’s unfailing love because the earth is full of it.

Now, I know we have all walked through some pretty dark places and finding God is impossible at the moment. As a matter of fact, the last thing you want to hear are those ‘Christianese’ verses and phrases thrown at you about how everything will be alright, trust in the Lord, or He works all things out for the good. They mean well. However, when you just buried your child or got the cancer call, they are hard to swallow.

So, if you are in that pit today, let me leave you with this instead. It is OK. You just sit in that pit for awhile. Grieve and let the world go on without you. As a matter fact, I am happy to just sit there with you and hold onto you, until you are ready to see that unfailing love that surrounds you again.

Lord, in this world we face times where we can’t see your unfailing love. Thank you for it even though we aren’t ready to see it. Thank you for never taking it away from us. ~amen

Treasure Hunt

Lamentations 3:25
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;

Have you ever been on a treasure hunt? I am not talking about full on Indiana Jones, but if you have done that, COOL! No, I am talking about simpler things like trying to find your keys, an item in a store, or maybe a job. How rewarding is it when you find it! That is exactly what this verse is talking about today.

Many people read this verse like God is “only” good to those that have hope in and seek Him. Then they question why so many bad people have so many good things. No, this verse doesn’t say God is “only” good to good people. However, it doesn’t have anything to do with blessings or gifts either. It has everything to do with God always being there to see you through the Good times and bad.

When you keep hoping God will see you through whatever you are going through, He will,. When you seek God, you will find Him! All you have to do is hope and seek. He will always be there for you. That is the good He gives to those who hope in and seek Him. So, grab your Indiana Jones hat and let’s go on a treasure hunt!

Lord, I choose to hope in and seek You. Thank You for always being there to be found! ~amen

Let the Son Shine In

1 John 1:7
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Do you know the best way to start cleaning a room? Open up the windows and/or blinds! Let that sun shine in! Creepy crawlies and icky germs do not like the sunshine. Mold and mildew only grow in dark damp places. Sunshine has also proven to help with depression. Winter blahs are a real thing people. Sunshine helps plants take root and grow stronger. Sunshine let’s you see the path clearly and navigate yourself where you need to go.

It is no coincidence that we also need to walk in the spiritual light our own ‘Sonshine’. When we are open and not sneaking around in the darkness, we recognize our own ickies and sins. We are more prepared to avoid them. Our spiritual lives are more peaceful. We grow stronger and stranger. Our paths become more clearer and we can better navigate where we need to go.

So at the risk of getthing the old song ‘Aquarius’ stuck in your head:
Now everybody just sing along
Let the sun shine in
Open up your heart and let it shine on in

Lord today let the Son Shine In! ~amen

Place your confidence in…

2 Thessalonians 3:3-5
3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. 4 We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

So, I had a mind blowing experience today. I read today’s verses. . . LOL! Seriously, verse 4 opened my eyes. It use to be one of those verses I just read. It didn’t pertain to me. Paul was talking to the Thessalonians,. Right? No! We don’t get to just take verse 3 and 5 and apply it to our lives. We need to take verse 4 also.

Do you place your confidence in people? Notice Paul didn’t say he had faith in the Thessalonians. He said he had confidence in the LORD! He knew that the Lord would continue to guide them to do what Paul commanded (the word command here means instructed). He prayed that the Lord would direct their hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance. He knew the Lord would give them the strength they needed. He put his confidence in the Lord to meet all their needs and help them along their journey.

Can I tell you something? The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. I have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things I instruct. May the Lord direct your heart into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

Lord, I place my confidence in you. You are faithful to meet all my needs. ~amen
