Stand Down

Sometimes the greatest power you have to do something is to do nothing. We must learn to wait and restrain ourselves. Humble ourselves, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift us up in due time. “Due time” is a very humbling phrase when you want to run out and fix something. Just ask any Marvel comic book hero!

At the risk of reciting all of Ecclesiastics chapter 3, I will stick with the most common phrase, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens”. We can’t just assume we know best and go barreling through to save the day. There are consequences to each and every action we make. We live in a broken world and there are always casualties. We never see the entire picture, but we serve someone who does.

When trouble arises around, our gut response should not be to swing into action without checking in for our orders. To get all the intel, we need to get it from the one who has it all. Most importantly, remember, sometimes your orders are to stand down and wait.

The End is Near

The end of all things is near. On the surface, you could just read that as the end of time. I could totally agree with you, but what if there was more to it? Some could read it as the end of your own life. Yep, I could agree with that one too, but what if there was more? I propose another meaning. What if it meant the end of your current situation or circumstances?

Let me first say, I believe it could say all of these things. For today though, let us look at the last lens. When you are facing problems you are often tempted to just give up instead of seeing things through. What if you took a new look at your situation and saw it for what it really was, an attack? What if you stayed sober of mind, keeping your eyes on God, and pray about your problem? Then you could reach the end victoriously!

When your world swirls around you and you feel like giving up, don’t! Take a moment to breathe. Clear your mind and put your eyes on the one who will fight beside you. Remember the end of all things is near.

Be Intentional

Do you live life intentionally? Do you plan everything or are you more of the live by the seat of your pants kind of person? Both extremes can lead to failure. You have to have plans, but you have to be ready for the plan to fail. That doesn’t mean you have plan A-Z ready at all times. It just means life is about progress, not perfection.

Part of being a good athlete is practicing every single day. My mom and I have a goal of walking 3 miles, 5 days a week. We knew winter was coming. We knew there would be rainy days or even days we were sick. We prepared for those days. We bought winter gear, had alternative exercises or places to walk, and yes, even took days to recover. With all of those plans, we don’t always make it. However, we keep going. We make progress.

As a Christian, we should also live for God. We don’t pick and choose when we feel like being a Christian. We work hard for our goal of sharing our faith, love, peace, and joy. Every day is not going to be perfect, but living intentionally, will certainly make progress!

Growing in God

God does not expect you to be perfect at everything all of the time, right from the moment? I know, a total DUH, right? Today’s verse back’s our theory up! It is like a newbies recipe for Christianity 101.

We start our journey with faith. It is the foundation everything is built on in life. Even non-Christians have faith in something. I mean I have no idea how a car works, but I have faith that mine will start when I put in the key. I have faith that when my husband works all week, he will get a check from his company and it won’t bounce. Life would not exist without faith. Our faith in God is the building block of our Christianity.

As we continue our journey our faith grows. So we start adding to it. We work on goodness, then knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and it grows so big we learn to truly love. Once we learn to fully love God, others, and ourselves we find a peace that surpasses all understanding as we face the troubles around us.

We all travel our roads at a different pace, but it is the same road. It leads to the same destination. We are never alone. God is always with us. He puts others along our paths. So what do you say? Want to grow with me?

Firm Foundation!

I know it is past Christmas, but one of my favorite movies is White Christmas. One of the characters talks about finding a white knight. The other character, Bob, says, “Let me tell you something, it’s kinda dangerous putting those knights upon white horses. Likely to slip off you know.” It is so very easy to fall.

Paul was warning the people to don’t think so highly of themselves. When you think you have everything under control is when you are likely to slip. Notice he doesn’t tell them to stop trying to keep it under control. He reminds them to remember where their strength comes from and news flash, it isn’t them!

Battles will rage around us all of the time. Temptations will come in strong. You have so much strength inside of you. You just have to learn to tap into it. Trust the strength God has put inside of you. Better yet, trust the one who puts it there every single day!

Too Much

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should”? How about, “Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing”? I am sure we have all lived both of these in our lives. I sure know I have.

There are lots of things in life that are good for us to do and experience, work, food, family, sports, and many more. When we indulge in them too much is when it becomes bad. It causes us to want more and more. Before you know it we have placed them as more important than God in our lives.

God wants us to enjoy our lives. He wants you to enjoy the cookie (or pizza in my case.) Our lives were not meant to be dull and boring. God wants us to live a joy-filled life. What He doesn’t want is for us to become obsessed with these things (yes, you can be obsessed with work and family. We must learn our priorities and use self-control. I assure you, you will enjoy “things” even more!

Happy New Year

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭6:24-26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Happy New Year! Thank you so much for going through my journey with me. I pray your new year brings you lots of peace, love, and joy..

Hugs,

Tabetha

I need a Hero!

John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Trouble, oh we got trouble
Right here in River City!
With a capital “T”
That rhymes with “P”
And that stands for Pool
(Ya Got Trouble from The Music Man)

Raise your hand if you don’t have trouble. That is what I thought, not a single hand. We shouldn’t be surprised by trouble. Jesus told us we would have trouble. Just because you are Christian, does not exempt you from the world. Let’s face it, our world is in a lot of trouble all the time. Marvel and DC together couldn’t produce enough superheroes to save the day.

So what do we do? Do we let our life get swept up and dragged down by the trouble? Do we curl up in the fettle position and suck our thumb? Or do we call on the one superhero that can save the day? Jesus won’t always take away the trouble, but He will provide the peace to get you through it. So take heart! Call on the superhero that has already overcome the world!

Lord, I need a hero and You are the only One that can help! ~amen

Believe

John 14:1
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.

“Seeing isn’t believing; believing is seeing” (The Santa Clause, 1994). I have to admit The Santa Clause is one of my favorite Christmas movies and this is my favorite quote. I think it is the best description of today’s verse. We don’t see God in order to believe. However, when you believe you begin to see God everywhere. So when our hearts become troubled, and you know they will, just believe.

Do I think believing will turn your world immediately into rainbows and unicorns? No, I do not. I do think believing will give you the strength you need to face anything. I know believing will help you take that next breath, and the next one, and the next. Soon you will be taking one step after the other. You will see a sliver of light over the horizon and before you know it the light will flood your life again. However, to get to this place you need to do only one simple thing. . . believe.

So, if Scott Calvin can learn to believe he is Santa Clause in order to see the magic, can you believe in God in order to see the miracles? I can promise you it is the greatest and most magical thing in the world!

Lord, I do believe! ~amen

On Empty

Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

I hate to be one of those people, but there are times I am so glad when Christmas is finally over. Don’t get me wrong, I look forward to it every year. I love all the lights, music, movies, traditions, and bright paper packages tied up with string. These are a few of my favorite things. . . LOL! There is something to be said for going back to life and not making sure everything is bought, wrapped, decorated, baked, and sent. I don’t know about you but I am exhausted.

Now I am sure there are several of you that are saying, wait a minute that isn’t the meaning of Christmas. I know, but let’s get real, He is not just the reason for that season. He is there all year long and should be celebrated that way always. Which brings me to today’s verse. Isn’t it wonderful He is there all year long and not just at Christmas? There is always burdens and weariness no matter what the season. Christ is there to always give me rest. When life gets complicated, making you weary and burdened down, go to Him and find your rest.

Lord, thank You for giving me rest when I need it. ~amen
