Find Your Happy Place

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

You can’t fill a cup with an empty tea kettle. OK, if you don’t like tea insert your own analogy like a coffee pot or pitcher. The point is they are all empty and you can’t give what you don’t have. If you are running low on peace, it is very hard to help someone find peace. Lucky for us, we know a source that is always available to help you refill.

To be a peacemaker, you have to find peace yourself. We all know this isn’t always easy. It is never easy when we try to do it ourselves. No amount of meditation, yoga, or deep breathing will bring real peace. Now, I am a big advocate for all of those things and practice them every day, but I know the peace that I find in them comes from God. It is my taking time to connect to Him during those things that I find inner peace.

I am not saying that is the only way to connect to God. You have to do your thing, whatever that is. Just make time to go and connect. Fill your vessel, so you can help fill others. Where can you go to find God and fill up? Do it today, and every single day, so you can be a blessed peacemaker!

Fill me up LORD! I need your peace today to spread to others! ~amen

SHOUT IT OUT!

Isaiah 12:4
In that day you will say:
“Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done,
and proclaim that his name is exalted.”

“In that day you will say . . . “ Guess what? Today is that day! It is time to stand up and rejoice. I don’t care what your circumstance or mood is today. I don’t care how busy you are or exhausted you are. Today is that day! Yes, I know I am sounding harsh, but you have to trust me here. Time is precious and the word needs to get out.

People need to know what you have been through and what you are going through. They need to see God working in our lives. They need to see more than the “Sunday Church” us. They need to know where we have been and where we are going. We can’t proclaim God’s name if everyone around us thinks we are a bunch of goody-two-shoes.

It is time to share your story with the world. It is time to make known among the nations what He has done, and proclaim that His name is exalted. It is the only way they too will be able to give praise to the LORD.

Where will you share your story today? I pray right now that God will give you an open door to someone today that you may, make known what He has done!

Lord, today I need You to open doors so that we may all find ways to make known among the nations what You have done! ~amen

Freedom

Galatians 5:13
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

Called to be free, what a strange phrase. It is a phrase we take for granted a lot of the time. OK, let’s be honest, we take it for granted all of the time. I am not sure most of us know the meaning of being free. We don’t even realize we are enslaved by things around us.

Yes, you read that correctly, we so often let ourselves become enslaved by things all of the time. As a teacher, I would often hear my students say, “That’s not fair, I don’t have a choice.” The truth is you ALWAYS have a choice. You just have to decide if the consequences of your choices are worth it. It is when we decide to give up our choice and let someone or something control our freedom that we become enslaved.

Freedom comes with great responsibility. We choose to take the time to help others. We choose to give of ourselves. We choose to use our freedom of choice to help someone else experience their freedom. Freedom is not giving because you have to do it. Freedom is choosing to do it because you want to do it. So, what is your choice today? Will you pick Freedom?

Lord, today I choose to give of myself so that others can see Your love in action. ~amen

Serve

Matthew 20:28
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Did you ever think about all the little things you can do to serve others? I mean it! It doesn’t take a lot of money or time, which we all seem to think we don’t have enough of these days. There are so many little things you can accomplish with just a smile and a kind word.

I am sure we have all experienced the exhausted parent trying to just make it through the checkout lane. Have you let him or her go ahead of you? Have you made the toddler, sitting in the cart, giggle and kept his attention while the parent is putting the items on the counter?

What about the person walking by that looks defeated? Have you ever pointed out that you really like his t-shirt, shoes, or hat? Have you ever given them a big smile and a simple “Hi!”? Have you just let them know they are seen by someone?

Serving your fellow travelers in life doesn’t have to be hard, time-consuming, or expensive. There is a time and place for all of that too. But more times than not, Jesus served the people just by being present and showing kindness and love.

Lord, show me today where I can serve others with love, kindness, and a smile! ~amen

Stand Firm and Know

Psalms 11:3-4
3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” 4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth;
his eyes examine them.

In another bible study, a question was posed, what do you do when disasters strike? What do you do when there is nothing you can do? When all the world is falling in around you and you have no answers what can you possibly do? Today’s verse was their answer. You remember that God is still on the thrown. No matter how bad things look, or how helpless you feel, you can be sure God is still there.

I also proposed another verse. I answer this with this verse:

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13).

As Christians, we do have responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is to stand firm. We have to stand in our hope and faith. We have to stand in our knowledge that God loves us and is in control even when it doesn’t look like it.

The world is a frightening place. Often our foundations are destroyed right out from under us with no warning. What can we do? We can stand firm and remember God is still in His holy temple, on His throne, and fighting for us!

Lord, thank You, for always being on Your thrown, even when the world tries to convince me You are not. ~amen

Oops!

Psalms 138:8
The LORD will vindicate me;
your love, LORD, endures forever—
do not abandon the works of your hands.

Psalms 138:8 MSG
Finish what you started in me, GOD.
Your love is eternal—don’t quit on me now.

I think if I were going to write my own version of this verse it would go like this. . .

God, I am sorry, I failed again. I am trying really hard here, but it is exactly that, hard. Please be patient with me. Give me another go at it. I know I can get this with Your help. Thank You so much for loving me and not giving up on me.

Yep! That is exactly how I would write it. I am so very thankful that this life is a learning process. It is progress, not perfection that God expects from any of us. That is why we have grace. God knew we would never be Him. There is way too much sin in this world to even think we could not be tainted by it. So, He loved us so much, He sent Jesus to die and cover all of those sins. Now, we can try and try again, with God’s help to get better and better all of the time.

So again I must say it one more time. I am sorry I have failed again. Thank You, Lord, for not giving up on me. Thank You for loving me enough to pick me up and help me try it again.

Lord, thank You for loving me and not giving up on me. Together we can do anything. ~amen

Best laid plans…

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

I know there are many days I look to Heaven and ask, “Are you there God?” Patience is not a strength of mine. Sitting and waiting when I have a million, “But Lord, if you would only (Fill-in the blank), everything would be so much better.” Yep, I always have plans A through Z that I am sure God needs to hear. I mean He is so busy and all, I am sure He could use my advice on how to run the world. Are you laughing right now or gulping and thinking you do the same thing? Maybe you are doing a little bit of both. I know I am laughing at myself.

God, doesn’t ever not care or not answer us. Sometimes, we get a straight-up ‘No’. Other times, we may get the dreaded, ‘Wait’. What we don’t know always remember is God sees all the players on the field and knows how all the pieces work together. It is kind of like a friend said to me recently, “Give thanks in all things. A flat tire is an annoyance, but it could have kept you from a wreck…..thank you, Lord. You never know what the Lord blesses you with, or why.”

God is always on your side. God is always right on time. God always has the perfect answer. Now, if I can just remember that and quit offering up my strategies. I’ll work on it!

Lord, I am sorry for seeking my plans. I am learning to wait on You. Thank You for being patient with me even when I do not always return the favor. ~amen

Rightly Favored

Isaiah 41:13
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

First of all, I would like to apologize to all of you left-handed people out there. History has really put you all in a bad place. There were times in history people thought you were from the Devil himself. I would love to remind you that you are still loved by God and He is not slighting you at all with this verse today, I promise.

The right hand was extended by royalty as peace and friendship. If you sat on the right-hand side of the table at a banquet you were thought of as a highly favored guest. Not sure who started this idea, but Isaiah wanted to make a point of that fact when he wrote verse 41:13. God is extending and taking you by the right hand. You are loved and highly favored. You are important to Him. He is extending His peace and love to you. He wants you to know you are going to be taken care of and have nothing to fear. He will help you get through whatever it is you are facing.

Now, I want you to think of God’s position in this verse. He is either standing on your right side, in front of you, or behind you. If He is in front, He is looking you in the eyes. If He is behind, He has your back and if he is at your side, well He must be standing at your right side, which means you have put Him at a favored spot in your life. So who is showing favor now?

Lord, I am so thankful You are always holding my hand through life. ~amen

You Can’t Hide

Jeremiah 23:24
Who can hide in secret places
so that I cannot see them?”
declares the LORD.
“Do not I fill heaven and earth?”
declares the LORD.

God is not very good at playing hide and seek . . . LOL! Hmmm. . . maybe it is that He is too good. He always knows exactly where to find you!

Adam and Eve tried to hide their shame from God. Cain tried to hide from God. I could go on and on with names of people in the bible who tried to hide, but it didn’t work. You may think it is a bad thing to not be able to hide from God but is it? A perfect love will never have any secrets from each other. We as humans are incapable of doing that. How hard is it to confess something to someone who doesn’t know what happened? We don’t have that stress when we talk to God. He already knows. The best part is we also know He still loves us. There is no fear of Him turning away and hating you. All He wants to hear is the I am sorry part. Then all is forgiven and forgotten. He will never bring it up or throw it in your face again. He will never keep score.

So, is it really so bad to not be able to hide from God? Yes, we still feel shame and want to just crawl under a rock, but we don’t need to do that. God knows exactly what happened and when. He has no hard feelings towards you. He just wants you to run into His arms and cry it out. Then He wants to wipe your tears and send you out on your way again.

I sometimes feel ashamed and want to run, but I am so glad I can’t hide from You!

You Can Soar!

Matthew 7:8
For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

You want hope that you will get through anything life throws at you? I want you to read Isaiah 40:31 and Matthew 7:8 together. Read it as if it was written directly to you because it was. These two verses contain some of the greatest promises in the bible.

When you ask, you will receive an answer. When you seek out God, you will find Him. The door of His thrown will never be off-limits, closed, or locked to you. Instead, know when you are tired, worn down, and just plain exhausted, put your hope in the Lord and He will renew your strength. You will not only survive, you will soar on wings like eagles. You will not just make it through, you will run and not grow weary. You will walk and not be faint. With your hope in God, you will always do more than just survive through life.

If you are struggling today, read that paragraph over and over again until you believe it. Then read it some more to yourself until you really feel it. These promises were written for you my friend, by a God who loves you more than you will ever know. You don’t have to feel as though you deserve it. That is what makes His love and promises so great. We don’t and will never get what we deserve. Instead, we get His grace! It is that grace fills all those promises you just read!

Lord, I rely on Your love to give me wings every single day. ~amen
