Peace?

Colossians 3:15

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Does anyone realize that the season of peace, love, and joy is anything but? Thanksgiving starts the rush season. Everyone seems to be out of sorts at the stores. Your mailbox and emails are flooded with sales. Last minute projects need to be finished because you are going to take some time off for the holiday. Time off what is that? You have packed it with last-minute shopping, gift wrapping, food prepping, and party attending activities. It is no wonder how people become so short tempered and snap at each other over parking places and buying the last “one”! How quickly does the month of peace, love, and joy disappear?

I am going to let you in on a secret. Peace, love, and joy are right there. As a matter of fact, they are there all year long. It is you that has to choose to use them. It is you that is in charge of that schedule and your temper. It is you that must choose to let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. You have been called to peace. Are you going to heed that call?

Lord, I choose to heed the call. Today, I will do my best to let peace rule over all my other emotions. ~amen

Which prints will you make?

Mark 16:15
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

Go, what a small and yet often terrifying word. We were never meant to be pew sitters. Our rewards in Heaven are not based on whose pew is the most worn out. No, we are to be people of action. We need to actively be loving people. Jesus wore out His sandals and so should you!

I am not saying, go door to door like an old-time vacuum salesman. Nor am I suggesting, you have to pack your bags and travel the world preaching on every street corner unless He tells you to. But you do need to be His hands and feet. Where there is a need, step up and fill it.

So many just walk through the week taking care of their needs and then flop in that pew on Sunday. each Monday starting it all over again. Stop it! Take a moment each morning to ask God to open your eyes and heart to the needs you can fill around you. It may be as simple as passing on a smile. We all just need to leave more footprints in this world and less rear-end prints!

Lord, show my feet where to go. ~amen

Daily Praise Report

Psalms 100:4

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

When is the last time you counted your blessings? I mean really sat down with a piece of paper and listed all the things God has brought you through. Maybe you are one of those people who keep a gratitude log. I have a daily one. I make it a point to find one positive thing that happened to me every single day. It helps me not end my day in a dark place.

It also helps me to write them down and gather them together for those days when it seems I will never find happiness again. I can pick up my old notebooks and flip through to see all the blessings God has brought me before. Then I begin to think if He has brought me through all of that, He can surely bring me through today.

Concentrating on the positive doesn’t always make the negative go away, but it certainly makes it easier to handle. So, take some time today and praise God for what He has already done, and be excited about what is yet to come.

Lord, I will find a praise report each and every single day. ~amen

Fake it to make it!

Psalms 95:1-2

1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

You may not be able to control your physical surroundings, but you can sure control your happy space. You know that little place you sneak off to in your mind when your world is falling apart around you? That holiday from reality has saved my life and probably those around me several times.

I will admit that many times I have gone there gritting my teeth and spitting out the words of Psalms 95. Other days, it has been through tears and sobs. I can promise you that each time I meditated on these words my heart began to soften. I would even go as far as my heart grew wings and it began to soar again. Much better than any Red Bull could ever do…LOL!

Circumstances are often out of our control. Bad things happen to us and we find ourselves sitting in the dark. Take heart, look up and start praising God for sitting there with you. Sing louder and louder even if you have to fake it to make it! I promise it won’t take long and you will be soaring on high again.

Lord, no matter what is going on in my world, I choose to praise You. ~amen

Gifts

Lord, show me ways to share my gifts with others today. ~amen

What is your gift? I know you have one. You just might have not found it yet. Ask God, He will show you. I know you have access to the gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues. You are also capable of sharing the fruits of the Spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
(Galatians 5:22-23).

It doesn’t matter what gift you have today. What matters is that you share it. Can you share a smile today? Can you help someone clean his or her house? Maybe you can hold a door open, carry some groceries, or just keep a fussy baby giggling while a mom is checking out at the store. Gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Just use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

1 Peter 4:10

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

ENOUGH!

Job 37:5

God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.

This verse in Job sends chills down my spine. It reminds me of Aslan from C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series. He is so loving and kind, but when He has to let the world know he means business, he lets out a terrible roar.

I don’t have chills because I fear it. I have chills because I am excited by it. Satan can put you in some pretty nasty situations. Things that are totally out of your control. Then some miraculous escape opens up and you are saved. It is in those moments I can imagine the roar shaking Heaven itself as God yells, “ENOUGH SATAN! You will leave my child alone.” Satan quickly turns tale and slithers off defeated once again.

All it takes is one word from God and the miracles pour down. The peace beyond understanding calms the storm or calms the child. When that word comes, look out because everything is made to listen to His command and no one can ignore Him.

Lord, I thank You for that word. I know it will save me every single time. ~amen

Coincidence? I think not!

Psalms 34:4

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

You know there are days when you are rescued and you don’t even know it. You have no idea from what. I am a firm believer in this. For example, have you ever been flustered because you can’t find your keys and you are running late? You finally find them and leave only to drive past an accident that you could have easily been in if you had left on time. There is also the one where you just happen to be somewhere that you weren’t planning on being and find someone who needed you there at that exact moment.

You can tell me these are all coincidences, but I for one do not believe in coincidences. I think there is meaning to everything we do and don’t do. God has perfect timing for everything.

I heard a story of a mother who felt the need to pray for her child right then. Later, she found out her military son was close to being discovered by enemy troops. Then a strange fog came in and surrounded him and his unit. They were saved. Coincidence? I think not!

Lord, I thank You for all the times I am kept safe or put in place to help someone else and I don’t even realize it. ~amen

Steadfast

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

When I read today’s verse in Isaiah, I got stuck on the word steadfast. To be honest, my stomach dropped and I became nervous. I can think of so many times I don’t feel so steadfast in my mind. My life overwhelms me. My anxiety and panic set in or my depression just plain takes over. I don’t feel so steadfast. I certainly don’t feel at peace. BUT I still trust in God.

Being steadfast is tied to the trust in God, not the trust in your own mind. Our minds are so capable of making up things that are not there. We perceive things based on our own experiences and emotions. I guess what I am saying is there is nothing steadfast about us.

However, we can put our trust in God. We can continue to have faith that no matter what our mind is trying to tell us God is still in control. When we choose to rely on God and not our own feeble circumstances, we will find the perfect peace. A peace that keeps us steady with peace in any storm.

Lord, I know when my world is full of nothing but chaos if I can just stay steadfast in trusting you, You will find surround me in peace. ~amen

Zap Them Lord!

1 Timothy 2:1-2

1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

No, praying, “Lord zap them!” does not count as praying for someone. As a matter of fact, I believe we can agree that Jesus had many enemies. If you recall some of His final words were, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:24). Now, I do need to mention here that David, on the other hand, in Psalms has a few zap them prayers. But in His defense, he had not been told to love others as yourself (Matthew 22:39).

Praying for someone who has hurt you or hurt someone you love is not easy. Praying for the person in charge that you did not vote for instead of tearing them down is not easy. But it is freeing. It is also a secret weapon of zap them, Lord. However, you are asking God to zap them with love, grace, and wisdom. You are asking God to open their eyes and help change their hearts. Along the way, God opens your eyes and changes your heart. Freeing you from all the hatred you are burdened with. So yes, go ahead and ask God to zap your enemies with blessings so that He can zap you too.

Lord, I hold grudges. Instead, I want to zap my enemies with blessings Lord. You show me grace and love Lord. Now I want to pass it on to all people. ~amen

Competent

2 Corinthians 3:6

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

You are competent! Let me say that again. YOU ARE COMPETENT. Now, I want you to repeat that several times in your own head. Heck, say it out loud and proud. Don’t let Satan convince you otherwise. Don’t let him tell you that you have screwed up one too many times and God does not want you. THIS IS JUST NOT TRUE!

There is a reason we fall under the Spirit and not the letter, meaning the laws of the Old Testament. It is because we now have grace to cover our mistakes. To be under the Spirit means we follow two simple laws instead of the original ten. We love God with all our hearts, minds, and spirits. We love others as ourselves. Read those two again. Do you realize if you follow those, you will not commit the other ten?

The Old Testament was filled with rules of what not to do. The New Testament is filled with the map on how to not break those rules and grace when we get off the beaten path. You are competent to read the map and you have the Holy Spirit to be your GPS when you need a little, “Recalculating”!

Lord, in you I am made competent and I will follow the Spirit where He leads. ~amen
