Peace in Your World

Galatians 6:2

Carry each other’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

I know I have said it before and I am going to say it again, “We were never meant to walk this world alone.” Yes, I know God is with us, but I mean another physical human being. No, I am not saying you all should be married with 2.5 kids and a dog, and a cat. Dumb statistics, whoever heard of a 1/5 of a kid . . . LOL! I am talking about reaching out to others and helping them, even if it is just being a listening ear and a crying shoulder. We all need help sometimes.

Do you realize how much more peaceful this world would be if everyone was helping each other instead of arguing and pulling each other apart? Can anyone say, world peace? I know we are not going to solve the world’s problems, but you can put a dent in YOUR world’s problems. Take a moment to actually hear what others are saying around you and see where you can help. It doesn’t mean you have to agree with everyone around you. It just means honestly listening and not automatically going on the defense. Try to add to the solution and not the problem. Learn to help carry each other’s burdens and not add to them. Your world may just find a little pocket of World Peace!

Lord, help me carry others’ burdens and not add to them. ~amen

Lazy River

Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Confession time! All of Romans chapter 12 is highlighted in my bible. Seriously, it has to be my favorite chapter in the entire bible. There are so many little gold nuggets hidden there. Today’s verse is one of them.

I find it funny how we humans pride ourselves on being ourselves. We claim to strive to be independent individuals with minds of our own. All the while we continue to walk and talk like everyone else just trying to fit in. Now don’t get me wrong here. Going with the flow is just fine until it’s not. If you don’t watch out, you can quickly be swept into a raging river.

This is where transforming your mind is so important. You can’t become part of that lazy little stream like some leaf floating along. No, you have to be a rowboat, prepared and ready to change your destination at any time. You have to be in control. You can’t just conform yourself and go where everyone else is going. This is where renewing your mind every single day comes into play. We need to check in with our Holy Navigator, so we can avoid those falls that come our way.

Lord, I need help steering my ship. Thank You for navigating me along the way. ~amen

Believe

John 11:25-26

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

I know today’s verses in John are talking about us believing in Jesus. I realize that’s a really important thing. But today, I want to take this a little bit further. Do you realize that Jesus believes in you? No, really Jesus believes in you!

Think about this for a second. He loves you so very much. We all know that, right? He asked you to do two things, love God and love others. Then, He believed in you so much that He was willing to lay His life down for you. He knew right then and there that you could do those two things because you believed in Him.

Satan has a way of telling us we can’t. He tries to tell us we are nothing but failures. He says we are not enough. Let me remind you that he is the father of lies. Jesus believes in you. He knows your strength falters and fails. Jesus believes you will let Him strengthen you. Jesus knows you stumble and fall, but He believes you can get back up. Oh, and as for that last lie, Jesus believes you are enough to die for and that says it all.

Thank You, Lord, for believing in me. ~amen

Gift List

Ephesians 6:14

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Children everywhere are making their Santa lists and getting them mailed right now, or maybe it is emailed. They believe they will get everything on that list. They have faith that they have been good enough and Santa will grant their wishes or at least pick one or two items off of it. Even adults are asking each other what they would like for Christmas, I know my mother-in-law has asked me, God bless her heart.

Now, I know God is not Santa. Nope, He is so much more and so why don’t we believe in asking Him for things on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests? No, I am not saying make a long list of material goods you want and present it to Him. However, if there is something you really want why not ask God to help you find a way to get it? I have prayed about jobs, a newer car, a car space, a new house, and even a new refrigerator, plus more. I didn’t expect Him to deliver them down the chimney, but I did expect Him to help me get the right things in His timing. You know what? He always came through.

No prayer is too small or too big for our God. If it is truly on your heart, then it should be truly expressed to God. No, God is not a genie or even Santa Claus, but he does love you and wants to help. He also loves to make you smile. Just like you do when you give out your presents.

Lord, I am so thankful that I can come to you with any need, and yes, even my wants. ~amen

Courage

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

It is Monday, people! We have 20 days until Christmas! Did I mention it is really peopley out there and I haven’t had my coffee (well tea) yet?! Goodness gracious we all need a little reminder of Deuteronomy 3:16! We need to be courageous!

Hopefully, your Monday, or whatever day you are reading this is not this dramatic. But I know we all go through times in our lives that just seem so overwhelming and unsurmountable. It might be money, relationships, health, or any number of things. In those moments of despair, we need to be reminded God goes with us and will never leave or forsake us. I know it feels like it sometimes, but I assure you, He keeps the promise! He will provide you the strength to keep on keeping on if you ask.

One thing to remember, Nelson Mandela once said: “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” Fear is an emotion that travels with us. We can face it down and keep moving with courage. God will supply that courage and walk through those raging wars with us. All we need to do is ask and believe. Now let’s go face the world today, but first coffee or tea!

Today, Lord, I choose courage with your help to face what may. ~amen

Back to Reality

Colossians 3:1-2

1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

When life gets you down, look up! Easier said than done I know but trust me on this one, it will help. How could something so simple work? Well, let me tell you a little trick I was taught when my PTSD, anxiety, or panic attacks set in hard.

It is sometimes called the 5 senses grounding technique. It goes like this, tell me 5 things you see, 4 things you feel, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell, and 1 thing you taste. The general idea is to get your mind off the attack by distracting it with things that are really happening around you. The thoughts bring you back to reality. Yes, it does work. However, I have to say I have a friend who loves to trip me up and ask dumb questions instead like naming 5 planets, 4 rivers, 3 colors, and so on. She gets me giggling and then poof no more attack.

So how does that relate to today’s verses? Well, when your life is dragging you down, get your mind on the reality of the things above. Don’t let Satan attack you. Find 5 promises God makes in the Bible, 4 characters He pulled out of disaster, 3 ways He has helped you in the past, 2 ways He has used you to help someone else, and 1 savior who laid down His life because He loved you so much. Before you know it, poof, no more Satan attack.

Lord, I know when I remember to look up, You will be there smiling at me. ~amen

He Gets You!

John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I find a lot of comfort in John 1:14. There is a lot of meaning behind the fact that God came to us. Jesus was here on Earth. He didn’t just appear for a while and then disappear. Nope, He was born and grew up here in human form. He became flesh AND dwelled among us. He experienced everything we humans experience every single day. He felt the emotions we go through. He learned what hunger, anger, frustration, fear, and sorrow felt like. He can honestly say, been there done that, and bought the t-shirt!

So, why is this so comforting to me? Easy, when I talk to him about anything, He knows where I am coming from AND feels it too. He is not some alien who has no idea what I am talking back. He can show empathy and not just sympathy. He understands me. He gets me!

When you pray and take your problems to Jesus, know that He gets you. He is not just a person sitting on some thrown far away. Nope! He has been in your shoes and seen your problems. As a matter of fact, He is stepping right along with you in your shoes now. You are not alone. You won’t carry these burdens alone anymore!

Lord, thank You for walking in my shoes with me. It means so much to me that You get me! ~amen

Shine on You!

Numbers 6:25

the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;

As we wind up November, this verse in Numbers hit me. If you have been around my blog for a while you have no doubt seen me pray Numbers 6:24-26 over all of you before. Today, I still pray it over you, but I want to talk about verse 25.

We look at the season of Christmas as being all decorated with joy and hope. However, for many people, it can also be the season of frustration, depression, and hurt. Even those of us with all that hope and joy can quickly become overwhelmed with all the holiday festivities. If ever there is a time to take a moment and pray that the Lord make his face shine on you, it is now.

Perhaps this is a verse that you can stick away and pray over people as you see them hurting in the stores or on the streets. Instead of getting frustrated with others and using angry words (out your mouth or in your head), you can whip this blessing out.

Of course, I am going to end this blog with a simple, “May the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you all through this holiday season.”

Lord, shine on those who need You close today. ~amen

Spread the Goodness

Galatians 6:10

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

I am honestly not sure what to say about today’s verse in Galatians. I mean it really says it all, doesn’t it? We are told to do good to all people, as we have the opportunity. This can be random acts of kindness or favors that are asked of us. It doesn’t matter if they are big or small we just need to act on them whenever we can. Now, let’s be honest that is pretty much all of the time, right?

There is always something you can do about any situation. When you feel as if there is nothing you can do financially, or maybe you can’t reach the person because they are too far away, you can always pray. Praying for and with someone is most defiantly sharing goodness. My momma has a habit I am trying to put in my life. It is to stop and pray with someone and not just take a prayer request. I think we could all use to be on both ends of the goodness sharing. How about you?

Lord, I don’t want to just make a prayer list, I want to share Your goodness and pray with everyone who needs my help. ~amen

Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy

Psalms 23:6 NKJV

Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Debbie Macomber wrote a series of Christmas books with the angels Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy. These angels are put in charge of following around a needy soul to help them out at Christmas time. After hearing of these books, and I believe a couple of Hallmark movies, I have never been able to read this verse the same. Is it really that stretch of the imagination to see three angels following us around trying to help us if we will only let them?

Here is the real scene. You always have access to goodness and mercy. You are dripping with it. It is your choice to use them. It is your choice to follow them. You decide whom you shall extend this goodness and mercy. You won’t run out of it, so why not give everyone around a little bit of it? Is it really too much to ask to exude goodness and mercy everywhere you go? Maybe you can help Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy and spread a little Christmas cheer all year long!

Lord, You have shown me goodness and mercy all of my days and now it is time for me to pass that on to others. ~amen
