All Dressed Up

Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

What would your day be like if you took a moment before acting or responding to anyone and asked yourself am iI being compassionate, kind, gentle, or patient? Am I showing humility? Can you imagine a world where everyone took that moment? I know we can’t make everyone take part in this, but we can start with us.

We are all God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved. You are chosen, you are made holy through Christ and you are dearly loved. Let that sink in for a moment. Let that warmth just cover you and hug you. Say it over and over to yourself, “I am loved!”

When you let that love really sink into your soul, it builds and builds exponentially. Before you know it that love just spills over, filled with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. As I said, I know this won’t change the entire world, but it will change yours.

God has chosen you and me. We are holy and dearly loved. God has made us a beautiful outfit Let’s head to the dressing room and try it on. I can guarantee
it will fit like a glove. It is not only our size but
our color too! It will make us look runway ready!

Thank you for choosing me. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for providing me with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience to share with others. ~amen

One Name

When Luke wrote Acts the pagans were still following many Gods. The Greek gods, Roman gods, and Egyptian gods were still a thing. From Zeus to Osirus, and every god in between, their everyday lives were run by many gods and you better please them all if you wanted a good time n the afterlife. Salvation under one name was very odd to many people.

Today isn’t so different than thousands of years ago. OK, maybe people aren’t following a sun god, moon god, god of water, earth, wind, and fire, or whatever, but what do we put in place of God. For some money, time, things, work, fame, or even other people can become idols in our lives. We can attempt to serve many gods. Even Christians can get caught up in things around us.

We each have to take a long look at our lives all of the time. Evaluating our motives with fine-tooth combs is essential. We must check in with God and ask Him to search us and show us where we need to let go of idols we are hanging onto so tightly.

Salvation is found only in Jesus. Three is no other name under heaven given to us by which we must be saved. Jesus is our savior.

I am so sorry for anything I have put between You and me, Lord. I know You are my one and only savior. ~amen

Increasing

2 Peter 1:5-8
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I want to take a look at some of the important phrases in today’s verse:

“Make every effort”
“Add to increasing measure”
“Ineffective and unproductive”

These verses all signify an ongoing process. There is no one and done here. You have to take action every single day. Notice I said YOU have to take ACTION. Yep, these verses are all about you!

In any relationship, both partners have to work to keep the relationship going. My parents recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. This was not because they both said I do then went their own ways. They had to work hard to keep their marriage going. I know because I was there for going on 49 years of it. I saw the bumps in the road, but I also saw the mending and building.

Our relationship with God is no different. He puts in His all every day for you. Now it is time for you to step up and show Him you are willing to work at it. This is going to take so much more than sitting in a pew on Sunday or a holiday. Just like an athlete you are going to
have to exercise and build those muscles. So
grab your gym bag. It is time for a workout!

I am in this relationship for the long haul Lord. I am ready to work with You to increase those qualities you have given me. ~amen

Know, Love, Peace

Deuteronomy 7:9
Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

Today’s verse sent me to this verse, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). There are also so many song lyrics going through my head right now as well. Such as:

To know know know him
Is to love love love him
And I do, and I do, and I do
(To Know Him Is To Love Him, Amy Winehouse)

Mama said there’ll be days like this,
There’ll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said, mama said)
(Mama Said lyrics, Shirelles)

We all experience “those days”. When they sneak up on us, we need to remember God has a peace to offer us. In order to accept this peace, we must first know in our heart the LORD our God is God; he is faithful, keeping his promises. When we know Him, we will love Him. When we love Him, we are ready to allow that peace, which transcends all understanding to guard our hearts and minds. Take time today to get to know Him before those days your mama told you about come calling.

Lord, thank you for knowing and loving me. Thank you for your peace that transcends all understanding. ~amen

Gentleness and Respect

1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

If everyone wanted preached at they would show up to church on Sunday mornings. Now, I am not putting down pastors, uh Pastor’s Wife here! Pastors, rabbis, preachers, reverends, and all the sort have their places in the Christian life. They are very important to God’s plans. However, the average joe on the street needs a different part of God’s plan. They need YOU!

People need to see and feel God’s love by watching you. They need to feel it through you. They need to hear it through you. Be ready to let your light shine (Matthew 5:16). Shine bright by being there for them. As the old saying goes, “In a world where you can be anything be kind”. Show them what grace, forgiveness hope, gentleness, patience, land love look like. Show them what they feel like.

Eventually, they will have questions. You need to be ready to answer. Don’t take this time to preach at them. Heck, don’t even take this time to preach to them. Share with them. Let them in on your life. Share your testimony. Share the real you and what God does for you every single day. This is how you become gentle and show respect.

This is how you share God’s love with people. Ok, then you can invite them to church. My husband will be happy to preach to them when
they are ready.

Lord, I want to let my light shine before men, so they can see your good works and glorify you in Heaven. ~amen

God’s Team

2 Timothy 1:9
He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,

I use to hate gym class on team-based game days. Standing there in line, hoping and praying I wouldn’t be picked last. No one ever wanted to be picked last. That meant no one really wanted you, but a team was certain to get stuck with you. Even when I wasn’t picked last, which wasn’t all that often, I always felt sorry for the one who did. To sit there in front of your peers knowing you weren’t wanted was hard to deal with at such a young age.

I have good news for you today. God did not pick you last. No one gets picked last in God’s game. We are all picked first. There is nothing so bad that He doesn’t want you and is stuck with you. There is also nothing so good that you are above all the rest. You are the MVP of His team, we all are and that feels great!

God knew even before the game began He wanted you on His team and not just warming the bench either. He wanted you out there front and center playing the entire game. You will not only be there but you will be a part of every 3 pointer, touch down, goal, and grand slam. Every single point on that scoreboard you
will be a part of today and forever because God chose you. So go grab your gym bag! We got a game to play and WIN!

Dear Lord, thank you for picking me for your team. I am ready to gear up and play. Put me out there coach! ~amen

Comfort

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Oh how do we love to read verse 3 and the first part of verse 4. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles”. We often skip right over the rest of it, “so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

When we do read the last part, we apply it to our loved ones. We may even stretch it out to our friends, however, there we stop most of the time. Oh, we may stretch ourselves a little farther by donating some money, perhaps even a little time to some charity. I know how many people pay lip service on social media! But do we go any farther?

Do you see that person in the corner crying and go over to just be with them? Do you offer to get some groceries for that man on the corner and ask him what does he really need? Do you stop and pray with that person, God just nudged you to talk to?

There are many people around you today that need comfort. Are your eyes and ears open? Is your heart open? God is calling you to comfort those in any
trouble. He has given you comfort now pass it on!

Lord, send me someone I can pass your comfort on to today. ~amen

I’m Sorry

Psalms 139:23-24
23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Oops! I didn’t mean to do it. I didn’t even know I did it. I never realized I was doing that. I’m sorry.

How often do we do things without realizing we have hurt someone? We honestly didn’t mean to do it. We honestly had no idea. I know if I am doing something, I really want that person to come and talk to me. I can’t make it right if I don’t know I am doing something wrong.

God doesn’t ever expect us to be perfect. There are lots of things in a day that we aren’t exactly making wrong choices, but maybe they just aren’t the best. We may even be doing the right thing but not for the right reasons. Our heart isn’t in the right place. That isn’t any good either. However, these things get overlooked in our busy lives. It is important to take a moment and ask God to help us see things we need to change or watch out for in our lives. Asking for guidance and wisdom on a daily basis is very important.

These verses were never meant to be gotcha verses. David was not asking for God to point out how bad a person he was. David wanted to know the things he needed to work on. He wanted to stay in
constant contact with God to help make the
right choices. This should be our wish too!

My prayer today is the same as David. Search me and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Let me know if there is any offensive way in me and help me to improve. ~amen

Bravery

Joshua 1:9
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but the assessment that something else is more important than fear” (Franklin D. Roosevelt).

Being strong and courageous does not mean you are not afraid. It means doing something in spite of your fear. Simply put it means doing it afraid. no, it isn’t easy. no, it doesn’t get easier. however, you never have to do it alone. God will be with you wherever you go.

Fear is False Evidence Against Reality. We all know where falsehoods come from, the Father of Lies! Yep, that would be from Satan himself. he loves to use fear to discourage people. If he can get under your skin enough you will stop right in your tracks and not carry on with God’s plans. The biggest problem with fear is if it gets even the smallest seed inside, it roots very quickly and spreads all over!

Fear can be a healthy thing. It can set off warnings to be careful It can make you stop and take a good long look. When taking that look, we need to use it as recon. We gather information on how to approach a situation, not stop ourselves and run the other way. Use the information to stop Satan’s plan. The battle is ours and God is right there with you!

Lord, I am ready to march on! I know the battle is mine. I will be strong and courageous. I will do it afraid! ~amen

Thoughts

Isaiah 55:8-9
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Can I hear an “AMEN!” Seriously, read today’s verses again and then yell out, “Thank You, Lord!” Why am I so excited about this? Take a moment and meditate on just a few of your thoughts in the past week, maybe just day, or even just the last hour? Were your thoughts around, fear, anger, revenge, pain, distracted by hunger? Yep! I am glad my thoughts are not God’s thoughts.

God is above fear, anger, revenge, and yes even distractions. He sees all, knows all, and knows what to do with it all. We, humans, get cut off in traffic and all of sudden become raging idiots. God gets yelled at, screamed at, denied, cussed at, has His name used to cuss someone else out, lied to, lied about, stabbed in the back, turned on, thrown under the bus, and blamed for everything. I am talking about just His kids! What is His response? I love you so much I am going to send my Son to die for you, so I can offer you grace.

So, yes, I am very glad God’s thoughts are not my thoughts, neither are His ways my ways.
The world would be in a lot more trouble if
they were.

Lord, I know I can seem selfish sometimes and want things done my way. Thank you for not listening to me! ~amen
