Hebrews 11:8-10
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
New adventures, no matter how exciting, can be scary. When we focus on that fear, we can be frozen in time and cannot move. We let fear out weigh the benefits. We lose out on our inheritance when we choose not to obey.
Abraham was told pick up your stuff and move. He wasn’t even told where. Abraham could have decided he was happy and comfortable where he was and moving was just too much trouble and too scary. He didn’t though. He chose to obey God. He overcame his fear by looking to the future, concentrated on God’s plan, and not looking back. He understood that the God before him was so much bigger than the fear behind him.
What about you? What is God calling you to do today? Are you going to look forward or be paralyzed by your fear?
Lord, today I choose to step out with you and not look back at the fear. ~amen
