Luke 9:61-62
61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” 62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
I may not be a farmer, but I even know when you are working a plow you have to look forward to where you are going and not where you have been if you want nice straight rows. Our lives are much like that scenario. We can’t move on, if we are stuck in the past. I am not saying you can’t hang on to memories and keepsakes. I am saying you have to learn to let them go and not saddle you down. You can use them to catapult you into a new adventure. You can even let them support you along the journey. But you absolutely cannot let them keep you where you are.
I told a friend today she needs to let go of her old comfy shoes. I meant she needed to move on to her next adventure. I mean you can’t try on a new pair of shoes while your feet are still in your comfy old ones.
Lord, help me let go of the past so I can move on to the future You have for me. ~amen
