Genesis 4:8
8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
It is so much easier to point a finger at others and their faults. We read today’s verse and say, “Well, I would never be a Cain.” Today I want you to take a second and look down at your hand. Do you see those three little fingers pointing right back at you?
There is a couple of things the bible has to say about judging others. They all revolve around, “Don’t!” The reason is because we have no room to speak. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23).
OK, I hear you saying, buy at least I haven’t murdered anyone. Well here is what the bible has to say about that. Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him (1 John 3:15) Ouch! Hate is like murder. Maybe you are perfect and never had hateful thoughts about someone else. If so, well kuddos to you. I happen to be among those who have thrown around that hate word.
I can bring you good news. For the wages of sin is death, but God offeres eternal life. He sent Jesus to die for ALL of Us and ALL of our sins. So from now on stretch out all your fingers, put your hands together in prayer and ask forgiveness for your own sins.
Lord, I am so grateful that You know we are sinners, yet You love us and forgive us when we screw up. ~amen
