For the Good

Today’s Scripture…

Romans 8:28, 31-32

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Thoughts…

“For the good,” what does that mean? Surely, the troubles we are going through are not for my good. If God is  working things out ‘for the good,” why are there wars, murder, abuse, poverty? How are these “for the good”?

If you have ever asked or been asked this question, let me clear something up for you. None of these things are the “for the good” part of this verse. Your focus is off. Those bad things are the “in all things” portion. You see God knows all these rotten things we will live through. These verses are telling you when all the muck of this world goes on, He will get you through it. He has a plan that is “for the good.”

Life is full of horrible circumstances. We live in a world full of sin. God is bigger than any circumstance. He is ready to help you through it. He will spare no expense. He already paid the ultimate price. “For the good,” He gave His own Son to die in your place to save you from death.

Love, God’s Love

Today’s Scripture…

1 John 4:7-11

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Thoughts…

So, when you read today’s verses, did you start singing, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love”? Maybe I was the only one…LOL. However, you are welcome for getting it stuck in your head now. Seriously, I would love to change the last to, “love, God’s love!”

God’s love is so much powerful than any love we experience. God’s love sees you for who you really are and still loves you. His love sees you for all you can be and not just what you are right now. God’s love doesn’t end. His love doesn’t depend on anything else.

Can you say that about your love towards others? I know I can’t. I wish I could. I have gotten angry with people and walked out of their lives or pushed them out of mine. I am working on it. In the mean time I just have to ask God to help me love them with His love.

Can’t Make Them Listen

Today’s Scripture…

1 John 4:4-6

4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Thoughts…

It is so frustrating when someone tries to argue with you over your beliefs. It is even more frustrating to see someone you love struggling and in pain with no hope or faith to turn to in their time of need. All we want to do is share with them the love of Christ.

Unfortunately, until they are ready to listen there is nothing we can do for them. We can’t make someone listen. “They are from the world.” Not only does the world listen to them, but they listen to the world.

So what do we do? We live out our God. We continue to show them God’s love. We let our light shine (Matt 5:16). We also pray! Pray! Pray! When you are done with that, you pray some more! We can overcome the world because our God is greater than the one who is in the world!

Wow! Satan is a lier! Who knew!

Today’s Scripture…

1 John 4:1-3

1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

Thoughts…

People have been claiming others are the antichrist since Jesus left this Earth. They claim that the end of the world is coming because they just know this guy is the antichrist. Well sit back and let me tell you my theory…

You see, the spirit of the antichrist is always around, says so in verse three. I believe it is because Satan has no idea about the end of time. He knows the date just as clearly as we know it. Yep, that means he is in the dark also.

So, he always has a “man in the wings.” He is ready for God to make that call. Then bang, he can put that spirit into action. Satan, in the mean time is going to do what he does best, spread lies. He will send out false prophets wherever and whenever he can to cause confusion.

Good news!  We have a full proof plan in place to make sure we are not led astray.. Those so called prophets do not believe in Jesus and will not claim He came in the flesh.

The spirit of the antichrist is here, but no worries, just keep focused on Jesus!

God Provides

Today’s Scripture

Psalms 28:6-8

6 Praise be to the LORD,

for he has heard my cry for mercy.

7 The LORD is my strength and my shield;

my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.

My heart leaps for joy,

and with my song I praise him.

8 The LORD is the strength of his people,

a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

Thoughts…

“God is always doing 10,000 things in your life, but you may be aware of three of them” (John Piper).

We see the storms swirling around us. We get so focused on the problem, we forget God is still in control. We don’t see all the things He is putting place and keeping at bay to see us through us the storm.

If we can only focus on one thing, let us focus on God’s strength. Thank God for the fact that He does hold us through the storm with His strength.. He is our fortress we just need to run to it.

God will provide your needs you just need to reah out for i. ask for it. Pray about it. Thank God for it!

Tools to Fight

Today’s Scripture…

John 14:26-27

26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Thoughts

I honestly don’t know how to expand on these verses today. I find them so incredibly comforting. What I want to point out is how they are a powerful weapon.

1. Satan says, “You are so stupid.”

Nope, can’t be because God sent the Holy Spirit to teach me.

2. Satan says, ‘All these bad things are happening around you. You have no control. It is total chaos.”

Nope, Jesus gives me peace.

3. Satan says, “You are all alone and darkness is setting in around you.

Nope, Jesus told me not to be afraid!

Read these verses over and over again. Meditate on them. Memorize them. They are a powerful tool in your arsenal .

Focus

Today’s Scripture…

Proverbs 4:23-27

23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. 24 Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. 25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. 26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. 27 Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

Thoughts…

Training takes focus. Focus takes practice.. Follow me here for a second. To succeed at anything, you must train. Training takes focus. We must practice to focus.

No one, not even God expects you to be perfect. The only thing we are perfect at is not being perfect so, God gave us instruction, advice, and guidance. Everything listed in these verses requires you to think about what you are doing. It requires you to practice focussing.

I meditate to spend time with God. When I started, I couldn’t do it for 5 minutes without my mind wondering all over. The point to meditation is not sitting still, relaxing your breathing, and focusing your mind for 30 minutes. It is about learning to recognize when you need to refocus and then doiing it.

Today take a moment to practice focussing so you can find your path and train yourself not to step off of it.

No, Never Alone

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 139:17-18

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.

Thoughts…

There are two people you can never get rid of, ever. There is no place you can hide. There is no telling them to go away. You are stuck with them from your first breath and won’t get rid of them with your last. Can you guess who they are?

If you said God, you are right about one. Did you figure out the other? It is you. You can’t even go to the bathroom without yourself.

It may seem daunting at times and you wish you could escape life for a moment. However, isn’t it reassuring to know in those dark moments when you want to run you truly are not alone. God is right there with you every step.

Do You Understand Me?

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 139:13-16

13 For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Thoughts…

How many times have you been in a conversation or arguement and thought (or said) “You don’t understand!” I have even been caught saying,  “You have no idea what I am saying.” Occasionally, I think I am glad they don’t know what I am thinking.

Seriously, it is frustrating when you are not being understood or even worse not even noticed. I can promise there is one who knows you better than yourself. He has always known everything about you. You can’t surprise Him. He knows everything you do, think, and why. The best part…He loves you anyway, no matter what. He loves every last part of you. If H e didn’t He wouldn’t have sent His Son to die in your place. He loves you, He wants you to be ith Him forever and ever.

Do you understand me?

Courage is Not Fearless

Today’s Scripture…

Hebrews 13:5-6

5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

Thoughts…

It is so funny how somedays God chooses to use similar verses and topics in my life to get my attention. Does He ever do that to you? It is like you hear a song on the radio talking about courage, then pick up your bible study and it is on fear, only to open your notes and see you have to write your blog today on a verse that says, “don’t be afraid.” Hmmm…I think God might be trying to say something.

Actually, I know exactly what He is trying to remind me. We will always face fear. We will always feel fear. It doesn’t make us weak or mean we lack faith. What we do with that fear shows our faith. This verse in particular says He will not leave us or forsake us, so don’t be afraid. When fear strikes, we don’t have to live in that fear. We can march on through the situation; we are not alone.

Please remember, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.” (Franklin D. Roosevelt). Whatever God has in store for you and I is so much more important than the fear in front of us.
