Snapdragon

Scripture

Mark 4:39-41

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Observation

Legend has it that concealing a snapdragon makes a person appear fascinating and cordial, and in the language of flowers, snapdragons are said to represent both deception (perhaps tied to the notion of concealment) and graciousness.

Appliation

Did you ever notice in these verses the disciples’ fears never went away, they just switched subjects. Jesus was fully aware of this fear. He wasn’t questioning their fear of the storm. He was questioning their fear of him. I was almost a, “What do I have to do to convince you I am the Son of God!” moment. When we face fears, one thing we can do is remember all of the fascinating things God has already done in our lives. Things we thought impossible at the time. If He was gracious enough to see us through those, don’t you think He can see us through today!
